Hello!
It’s well past time that I caught you all up on what’s been happening at Type Du Nord HQ! I am putting the final touches on Stockinette and she will be officially released soon!
But first, I need to share with you the classes I am teaching this summer!
Type Design Development Workshop is starting June 3rd! It’s a 10-week course where we prioritize finishing a typeface you’ve been working on. It’s a great class for more advanced type design students who maybe need a little accountability and feedback to wrap up their projects!
It’s a critique-based course but we often talk about where and how to publish your typefaces, font-engineering for the final stages of type development, and what it’s like to run your own foundry. No topic is off limits and it’s a great space to develop a little type-making community of people at your level! Priority applications and scholarship applications are due this Sunday, May 17th!
I am teaching the Crash Course in Revival Type Design with the wonderful Tam Segura! It’s a gentle (yet fast-paced!) introduction into type design. Because you’re starting with an existing type specimen, you can learn the whole process of creating a typeface from start to finish without the stress of coming up with your own type concept. It’s a great introduction into type systems! If you’re interested, sign up asap to reserve your spot! Class starts June 2nd!
Okay!! Now let’s talk about Stockinette!
When I wrote last, I had made some extra cap alternates and I have added a few more since then. I really want to lean into the hand written feeling of this typeface and give users as many opportunities as possible to give their designs that extra *something*!
In a similar vein, I have also expanded the emojis and special characters. We’ve got stars! Squiggles! Underlines! Arrows galore! I have no self control with these things!! I want there to be fun things to discover in the glyphs palette for every typeface I design!
And last but not least, we have the lowercase i dotted with a heart!
That’s all for my mini-update! I’ll be back soon with the release of Stockinette!!
Get Stockinette b4 the price goes up!
Some books I’ve loved recently:
Euphoria by Lily King
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (I also saw the movie which was great!)
A couple weeks ago, I went to a Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman show where they co-headlined and it was awesome. It totally revived my love for Waxahatchee!!
I recently learned to spin my own yarn and I am loving it!! It’s so fun (and torturous!) to be bad at something but seeing improvement with every skein makes me feel so proud!
I got a pair of Keen Newports for the summer and I am obsessed! They’re so comfy and mega functional!! I got mine for $50 on Sierra Trading Post.
I made my own gluten free cheez its recently and they were so good! Here’s the recipe I used.
Lyl,
Libbie
P.s. — Sorry for all the yelling!! I am just excited about this one <3
