In Volume 7 of the novel (and yesterday’s comic episode) Arthur encounters a variety of corrupted mana beasts. The thunder-wolves, razor grimalkin, iron hyrax, midnight grizzly—I tried to come up with names that sounded fantastical but also intuitive, to give readers an immediate idea of what it might look like. If I said a “mistibob goomiboozer” attacked Arthur, it’d be very difficult to imagine what the hell sort of beast it is, so I tried to be mindful of the names and variance so they didn’t feel like mana beasts from a single ecosystem. (But actually, what do you think a mistibob goomiboozer beast looks like? lol)
