I never forgot where I grew up; Susan Collins did.

Here’s a little-known fact: Susan Collins and I were both born in Aroostook County in Maine. That’s about where our similarities end.

I worked eighty-hour weeks logging – the kind of work that wears down your body and never quite catches you up on the bills.

Susan Collins’ family owned one of the biggest lumber suppliers up there. Big logging companies didn’t sweat our low wages, lack of healthcare, or quality of life.

Since then, our two paths diverged even further.

I spent years as a logger myself before going to the State Capitol to fight for the fair wages and treatment I never got as a working-class guy.

Susan Collins grew up far away from working-class struggles, and her time in Washington has only extended her distance from Mainers. She’s spent the last 30 years building her wealth and power. She uses her power to enrich her wealthy donors and, these days, she bows down to Trump as well. She voted with him 96% of the time.

I can’t imagine standing in the same room with Trump with a smile on my face, let alone voting for 96% of his dangerous agenda.

It just goes to show that just because you grew up in working-class Maine doesn’t mean you give a damn about the people from there.

Susan Collins doesn’t need to choose between a paycheck and a doctor’s visit, and it shows. I have, and so have my parents and most of the people I grew up around. She’s had decades in office to do something to help, and instead we got more of the same.

Here’s where we actually stand: we started this race as the underdog, tens of millions of dollars behind with only a couple of months to close the gap. Collins’ allies alone have over $50 million in ad reservations against me. And yet, a new poll just came out, and we’re neck-and-neck.

This is exactly the time when the outcome of this race gets decided — not by who has more money banked, but by who can keep their message in front of Maine voters over these next few weeks. Every ad we can afford to run is a chance to remind people that even though Susan Collins grew up in Maine, she abandoned Mainers long ago.

I grew up watching people like my family get left behind by people like Susan Collins. I’m done watching her get rich while the people I know struggle. That’s why I am running, and that’s why we must win.
