Dear Ones,

My daughter skips when she runs.

Not as a substitute to the typical stride of a sprint, but as a (somehow) balanced break in the middle of her rhythm.

Not as a shift to some dainty, slowed down hop, but as a full out, knees-high bounce while still chasing the ball on a soccer field. Sister covers some serious ground with her skips.

And, I am pretty sure she has no idea she does this.

And, this subconscious explosion of youthful, whimsical movement delights me to no end.

There is a sweet woman who works at my daughter’s school who seems to be forever tasked with car lane drop off/pick up duties (regardless of the weather). I introduced myself and asked her name early on in the year but admit have since been unable to retain that information due to complete and total perimenopause brain (Peri-Pause Patti, as my boyfriend likes to call me).

Anyway, each day I say goodbye to my kid as she exits the vehicle. I tell her to be kind, be helpful, just be herself because who you are is…
