The Thursday Murder Club has a star-studded cast that brings exceptional chemistry and incredible storytelling to the Netflix movie. This movie immediately made its way to my watchlist as soon as I saw the preview before its release. Now that I’ve checked that box and watched the film, it’s safe to say it might be my favorite watch by the end of 2026, even though the year has just started.
The cast is brilliant. Every role is stellar. Chaotic or awkward scenes magnify the acting team’s ability to land every single line. From subtle gestures, to well-timed phrases, the creative team behind casting The Thursday Murder Club deserves a raise. The film presents a murder mystery in such a fun and equally dramatic way, where the characters played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie make up the self-titled group: the Thursday Murder Club.
This special club spends its Thursdays, and other spare time, using experiences in their former lives, prior to their retirement village days, to solve cold cases. Despite their love of cracking older cases wide open, all of it is in jeopardy when rumors of their home being sold begin to spread. What’s even more disturbing; one of the owners of Coopers Chase (said retirement village) is murdered.
Now the Thursday Murder Club has a real active case to solve, but they’ll need help from the inside to gather information to investigate on their own terms. Naomi Ackie plays Donna, a constable on the local force, and it’s quickly established how entangled and essential she becomes to the group. Let’s not forget about her boss played by Daniel Mays who must figure out a way to run the investigation, while not getting sucked into the club’s investigative tactics. Let’s just say he gets frustrated quite a bit.
There aren’t any complaints to report. No awkward pacing. No gaps or difficult to follow storylines. The Thursday Murder Club produces intelligent characters, great camera angles and scenery, intriguing plot twists, and a heartwarming connection to characters who are genuinely bonded as an onscreen family.
There are times when you’ll watch a movie, and you love it, but you could possibly see why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. That’s not what this movie is. This is the type of film where almost everyone will enjoy it. If anything, add it to your watchlist – and then get to it later. Even if someone isn’t into the murder mystery genre, the blended moments of humor with cloak and dagger shenanigans are the type of thing that (should) propel towards a sequel being made.

Additional Notes: I would gladly show this to my kids, who are ages 13 and 11, as nothing is overly violent, and I think they would find the story as equally intriguing as I did.
