First, happy Mother’s Day to all the moms reading this.
Whether you spent today getting brunch, getting flowers, or getting a “love you” text from a kid who definitely had to be reminded — I see you. You’re doing great.
Now, the news!!!
We crossed 8,000 subscribers — I have no idea how this happened but thank you!!!
Eight. Thousand. People. 🥹
I don’t take it lightly.
Remember when y’all collectively lost it over the Mt. Rushmore of Cuisines piece? The comments. The DMs. The very spirited arguments about which cuisine had to be on the list and which one was a personal attack on someone’s grandmother (apologies to all the Nonas out there for not putting Italy on the list — that one’s on me)
That’s the energy that keeps me writing every week. It’s the most fun corner of the internet I’ve stumbled into.
But here’s the thing…
The U.S. Surgeon General has called loneliness a public health crisis — putting the health impact at roughly the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Around half of American adults say they regularly feel lonely. That’s not a stat I can read and just keep scrolling past.
I love writing this newsletter. I love your comments. But I’m also the kind of person who physically cannot shut up at a party.
I want to actually be in the same room as some of you — argue too loudly about whether French food is overrated, hand you a drink, and find out what you do for a living three minutes after we meet. 🍻
So we’re (Kenny and I) are throwing an event!
I lead enterprise sales at a travel tech startup in the business travel space. We compete with Navan and Concur — but we’re slanted more toward event travel (think: Concur, except it doesn’t make you want to launch your laptop into the ocean).
Kenny and I started this Substack together. We spent the last few years traveling the world going to a million industry events… and at some point we looked at each other and said, “wait — why don’t we throw our own?” 💡
Plus, we love golf. (If the video above didn’t already give that away.) ⛳
📅 Friday, June 12 — 9am shotgun, scramble format
(it’s chill, you do not have to be good— here is the event invitation)
⛳ Course: Saddlebrook Golf Course
📍 Where: 5700 Saddlebrook Way, Wesley Chapel, FL (Tampa area)
💵 Cost: $130/person — golf, lunch, swag bag, prizes
🏨 Stay: Saddlebrook Resort has a special rate starting from $79/night (June 11–13). After you register, email Gabbie at gabrielle@allfly.io to get into the room block.
❤️ Proceeds: 100% to the North Shore Animal League
🏆 Prize package for the winning team is veryyyyyyyyy good. Won’t spoil it but it does contain FREE FLIGHTS!
Don’t golf but want to support? Hole sponsorships start at $500. Hit reply and I’ll loop you in.
👉 If you love me, golf, drinking beer in the Florida sun, or just need an excuse to dip over to the Tampa area, do the right thing and Register here.
If this goes well, I want to do more of these.
Different cities, different formats, cool experiences, and a real shot at meeting some of you face-to-face instead of just over a “reply to this email.”
So — thanks for putting up with the slightly promotional post today.
Normal programming resumes next week, when I’m GOING TO ROAST Delta for yanking the Biscoff cookies off short-haul flights. 🍪 😤
Stay tuned!
