It's here — plus a podcast

As of yesterday, Voices in the Code is a published book! If you ordered a physical copy and don’t yet have it, it should be reaching you in the next few days.

Marketplace did a nice podcast about the book, which really laid out the heart of the story in about ten minutes. The NPR tone is easy on the ears, but behind the scenes, I was startled and delighted by how thorough and careful they were. The show’s producer went deep into my footnotes for some of the information that the very thoughtful host, Kimberly Adams, mentions in her introduction. I was nervous and hear that tone in my voice, listening back, but they still made something good out of it.

At a personal level, judging from yesterday, life as a published book author feels about the same as before: I took a bus to work, had a tofu sandwich for lunch, ran an errand, sat in meetings. I’m looking forward to engaging with readers — including with you all — now that the book is out there. I’ll share an update soon about some upcoming book events, both in person and online.

As the novelist Robin Sloan once put it, if you say the same things too many times while on book tour, “the spiel congeals.” So I’m hoping not to give a canned performance, but to have real and fresh conversations with new voices in each place. We’ll see how that goes.
