Notes from the Middle Shelf

Hello,
I was listening to a story on YouTube, and the author had written:
> “Outside the window, the world continued on as if nothing inside the room mattered.”
This struck me as an odd sentence.
One, that is the default state of things.
Two, it is telling me something, not showing me.
Then I thought of this:
Looking out the window, he saw the inside. It laughed.
What inside, he didn’t know.
He laughed without humor, the kind the body does when it has nothing else to use.
It laughed again, a deep, booming laugh.
The window opened. He stepped through and ended up in the same place.
Now the outside was inside, and he was inside the outside.
No idea what it means, but it is definitely something.
Thanks, love, and peace.
