Tiff Randol · Music and Motherhood Across the Spectrum

Some songs arrive like transmissions. This was one of those.

I wrote it at 4am — half awake, half dreaming. The lyrics came out in one flow, no editing, no second-guessing. When I looked back the next day they felt less like something I’d written and more like something I was meant to carry.

That was over a decade ago.

I’ve held this one for a long time. Reworked it. Put it down. Picked it back up. Waited for the right moment to let it out into the world. That moment is now — and the more I sit with why, the more it makes sense. We are living through a lot of collapse right now. And this song has always been about exactly that.

At its heart, Stardust Apocalypse is about the seeds of destruction. The choices we make. The greed and violence we tolerate, normalize, look away from. The way those seeds grow into something we can no longer ignore. Collapse is inevitable when the ground is poisoned.

But destruction doesn’t erase beauty entirely.

Even in devastation — there are moments of stillness. Light breaking through. Reminders that we are stardust. Fragile and eternal at the same time. That’s the bittersweet place the song lives in. The grief of what we could have done differently, and the knowledge that on the other side of implosion there is always creation. There is always rebirth. We are matter that has been cycling through the universe for billions of years. Nothing is actually lost. It just changes form.

I produced this with David Christophere of Rabbit in the Moon — a true kindred spirit. Working with him was an experience of genuine world-building. Experimentation, texture, the kind of collaboration where you’re both trying to make something feel simultaneously massive and intimate. For me it was also a deep learning process as a producer — pushing further into sound design than I’d gone before and David is a master of all things spacey and magical. I love the sound of this piece and working with him to see this come to life was a great joy.

The video was directed by my brilliant friend and collaborator InteriorState (Patrick McPheron). Spacey, sci-fi, my face fracturing apart.

This is the final single before Legacy comes out in full this spring.

If you’ve been here through My Head My Heart My Hands, Desire, Atomic — we’ve been building towards the full album and this is the last piece before the whole thing lands. Thanks for being with me.
