Color-Walking LA | Yellow

In the third installment of “Color-Walking LA”, we’re seeking out the color yellow.

A quick refresher - a color walk is simple, a little meditative, and genuinely changes how you see even the most familiar street. This series takes that same premise with a little twist - instead of following a red door or a stranger’s sweater down the block, we’re building full-day itineraries around the colors that define this city — the architecture, the food, the places worth lingering. Think less scavenger hunt, more love letter to LA in a single hue. Color-Walking LA red edition here and orange here ICYMI.

When I think of yellow + LA, I think of light. Sunshine. Bright lights, big city. The City of Stars, glitter and gold … we’re going to Hollywood, baby.

Option 1 - Daytime

The cutest retro rainbow cafe you ever did see! Take your time admiring the golden touches inside Obet & Del’s while you sip your cappuccino.

There’s no shortage of trails in Griffith Park, and I really truly love them all. But Fern Dell is my favorite for the views and getting a workout in! Plus, the Hollywood Sign at the top of the hill is like a reward.

Once you’ve gotten your fix of Hollywood Sign views, take a walk inside Griffith Observatory - admission is free, but my favorite part of the experience is seeing a show inside the Samuel Oschin Planetarium (tickets are $12). Proceed with caution… you might fall asleep post hike in one of the cushy seats.

Friends & Family is a great breakfast or lunch stop, it’s a staple for me whenever I’m in the area. And to keep with our yellow theme, there are a number of eggy options on the menu! Whether you’re cutting into a picture perfect quiche, eggwich or spooning some egg salad onto a side of toast - you’re golden here.

After a hike and roaming the Observatory, take it easy and drive yourself down Hollywood Boulevard to spot the sparkly lights at El Capitan and the gold touches of Dolby + Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. This way, you get to avoid the crazy crowds and overstimulation of Elmo and Spiderman soliciting photos from you - but still get a taste of the Hollywood glitz and glamour~

Option 2 - Sunset/Evening

This wine bar needs more love! Sip on a crisp orange wine and nosh on a couple shareable snacks while you sit amongst the cozy glowy lights of this sweet spot.

Golden hour into nighttime is the perfect time to see the sign, IMO. It’s kind of like a 2-for-1 special. Upon further research for this article, I learned the sign is no longer lit up at night (!!) due to concerns of light pollution. More info here.

Whether there’s some extra telescopes scattered on the front lawn or it’s just your average Saturday - the Griffith is open until 10 PM every night except Mondays! Maybe we should celebrate the beginning of summer on Sunday?
