Everyday..
The children wake too early
They wake to the warmth of my arms
We go downstairs and they argue over the TV
We snuggle on the sofa keeping cosy together
I make porridge for my daughter which she complains is too hot
I make breakfast and fill hungry tummies
My son runs away when its time to get dressed
We play a game of who can get dressed the fastest
I make another round of lunchboxes with all the same fillings
I fill up their lunchboxes with the foods that they like
I break up fights over toys and trip over sofa cushion dens
I smile at them playing together and admire their creativity
I try to get dressed while they mess up my bed
I laugh at their laughter as they jump and be silly
I empty the dishwasher again and again
I ready the kitchen for the day ahead
I badger my sons to get out the door on time for school
“Have a great day” i call to my sons as they leave for their day
I play the same games and stare at the same walls
We have such fun together in our warm, safe home
Brush your teeth, have a wee, i bark endless commands
I teach the children the rhythms and routines of our lives
Please stop talking, don’t ask me another question
Tell me that story again, its so funny!
I cant wait until they are asleep so i can have a rest
Goodnight my sweet darlings, i hope you had a wonderful day
The repetition is killing me, i long to get away
Im so grateful for my children, i don't want to miss a thing
Will it always be like this?
I love you with all that I am
Everyday the same,
The same as everyday.
