After visiting Pittsburgh, we headed for Michigan. Upon entering the state of Michigan, we were surprised at how it seemed that just about everyone on the highway was speeding!
Our first stop was Lansing, Michigan, the state capital. A typical, small town, but with an interesting state museum that is definitely worth a visit.
The museum housed some interesting exhibits about the state of Michigan. The staff was very friendly. A docent actually approached us and explained some things to us about northern Michigan when we were viewing that exhibit. And while waiting for MyLove at one point, I got into a conversation with a receptionist there who identified herself as a Michigander, and said that the speeding thing encompassed the mentality as, er, something like, “We invented the car, so we should be able to drive as we please.” Go figure. We laughed about it.
So we’re walking around the museum, and all of a sudden we notice that we’re in the middle of the Motown exhibit! And I thought to myself, “Duh, that’s right: Motown started in Detroit; and Detroit is in Michigan, and here we are!” Double-Duh! :o)
Then we walk over to a display incorporating a small baby grand piano enclosed in glass, and the label says that it is one of the first played by Stevie Wonder in his youth!
With these and other exhibits, the Michigan Library and Historical Center was a great find!
