Simplicity Is The Secret Sauce

Back when I was working like a maniac and was creating course after course for both myself and certain well-known marketers, it was chaos.. There were notebooks with ideas everywhere. I needed a simple system so that everything got done. It was then that I found “personal Kanban”.

Having a system in place is a great way to ensure things get sone and your business grows and that you work effectively. For day-to-day work, I used a personal Kanban board, this is a real physical board that I had in my office. It was a small whiteboard from the local supermarket that I could either write on or add Post-it notes to. Before I got it, my wife used to get angry with me for writing on the wardrobe doors!

Every time I had a new project or got busy because ideas were flowing, I rolled it out to help me control the chaos. Each week I’ll create 12 “options”, which are 12 things I want to get done. I can only add more if I’ve completed some of the existing ones.

After those 12 options, I’d have a column which has a maximum of 3 items that I am working on at that moment.

There can never be more than 3 in the doing column, when one is completed, it’s moved to the done column, and I replace it with a new one from the Options list.

By the end of the week, the 12 “options” will hopefully all have moved into the Done column, and I can start over.

Effective and efficient, this worked because you can visualise your workflow and you are forced to focus on only the 3 things in your doing column.

Give it a go, it will be worth it.

Systemising your business and effectively using your time is the most important thing you can do while you are trying to build your business.

It’s 7:55 in the morning, as I am writing this, I’ve showered and shaved, and I know that the next 45 minutes are mine for writing. It was the same yesterday, and it will be the same tomorrow.

I’ll finish and publish this in about 15 minutes, then I’ll have 30 minutes to check the community and answer posts and jot down some ideas and posts for Substack Notes.

I’ll then check today’s emails and head down to town for a coffee.

When I get back, I’ll make notes on tomorrow’s article, and then I’ll do a Video for the community where I’ll show how I promote my books.

That’s the system that works for me… and yes, it does work:

Don’t build your system around what other people do or recommend, this is my system, and it works for me. It probably wouldn’t work for you- square peg, round hole etc. So take time to work out what will work for you.
