I won’t say who said it or where it was but a little while back a relatively high profile DJ asked me semi-sarcastically if I was ready for a non stop hour of ‘vacuous all consuming’ dance music chat?
I burst out laughing. They did too.
It’s a funny game we all play really isn’t it.
When I think back to the hedonistic days of lawless parties in The Hague, the care free beaches of Ibiza, the warehouse raves in the back end of some s**thole of an industrial estate in the English countryside… I do tend to wonder whether people hoped and dreamed that it might all one day lead to a brunch meeting in the foyer of the Ace Hotel in the Dutch capital. Two men in V neck t-shirts classily debating which shade of black looks better on their newly signed ‘next big thing’ and wether or not the ‘radio edit’ of the latest single is still too long for an Instagram reel?
It’s still underground though, isn’t it? Tell me it is? Please?
Anyway, in other news the Labour Party conference was hosted in Liverpool last week and Keir Starmer gave an empowered speech on how good it feels and what it really means to be British.
This to me was a little bit ironic given the fact that if the Scousers had worked out a way to surgically detach themselves from the rest of the country then they would have bloody well done so and been halfway across the channel by now.
What’s more, they’d have their own scally lead parliament, the official uniform would be a trackie and and a pair of Air Max 97’s and I tell you what - they’d be doing a damn sight better job of governance than the Labour Party are, that’s for sure.
Meanwhile in POP CULTURE apparently there’s beef between Taylor Swift and Charli XCX. I for one am looking forward to this entirely unscripted, definitely unprompted and totally unplanted very public feud to play out in all its glory. UNDER EMBARGO of course.
Until next time…
