Today was a breakdown and cleanup day at the fair. We packed up everything and loaded the shelving and leftover work into our trucks and cars. Next, we’ll work out what everyone sold, pay the artists what they are owed, and pay sales tax. This part can be difficult because we all need to go over everything, and handwriting can be hard to read, so mistakes can happen with the math. However, I like to think that doing the work and getting it to a place where others who might care can see it is the difficult part. So we are all in good shape.
Our art collective booth went smoothly, and many decided our location was a great spot and that they would definitely do it again next year if we can. Personally, I think we might be able to take on another artist, but we’ll see what the group thinks. I am all for generosity and making ways for people to show others what they have made. Starting an artist collective meant we were all picking ourselves and didn’t need to wait to be picked.
The end of the fair means the end of summer but not the end of the shows. I have a packed show schedule for October, so I will need almost all of September to make up work and fire out pots for inventory, as I will have no time to make at all once October hits. I feel a little stressed about having three shows back to back, but feel it is somthing that will add a little excitement to my life. As if it is not already exciting enough.
As things move forward, I still need to work on the kiln now that the days are cooler, and at the same time think of themes for the upcoming October shows. I hope to make more raku pots and also maybe a few forms that I have not tried yet; a few of those would be bonzi pots, coffee pour-overs, and possibly some covered dishes. For now, I need to get ready for work at the big paper factory for another night of nights.
If I were living yesterday a second time: I would have done things the same.
Things I am grateful for: Showing work with other artists.
If I get to live to be 86, I might only have: 12,589 days left.
