This issue is an Innerleithen-special, not deliberately but just in terms of where the updates came from this week. It’s a good reminder that despite our name we are keen to cover updates for communities around Peebles as well. TOWN CHAT
💵 The first microgrants from the RWE Bowbeat Wind Farm (Innerleithen) Community Fund have been paid out. The beneficiaries are Innerleithen Open Studios (for website development) and Hub CIC (for bollard signs to discourage cycling on pavements). The main funding panel will meet in September to discuss the first round of funding. Nine single-year applications (totalling £35k) and 6 multi-year applications (totalling £60k) have been submitted. Round 2 is currently open for applications (deadline 21 September).
A separate RWE Bowbeat fund covers Peebles and Eddleston. Round 2 of funding is currently open for applications (deadline 28 September).
☕ This is the final week of trading of coffee and homewares shop Haus & Co at 51 High Street Innerleithen. They have a 50% off sale running across textiles, accessories and ceramics. The business will continue to trade from their Melrose site (2 Palma Place).
🏫 New double yellow lines are to be painted on Traquair Road, Innerleithen from the junction with Miller Street to just before the Traquair Arms.
🌉 The B-listed Haughhead Bridge has reopened following works to strengthen the deck. It will now be accessible again for horse riders.
🌲Harehope East Forest, a 137-hectare commercial forest located to the west of the Meldons has been sold to an investment house, Blackfinch Group. This is the group’s second forestry purchase in Scotland. The freehold was for sale for o/o £1,900,000. Scottish Business News

Peebles Triathlon Weekend is coming up in September. On Saturday 19 there is a Junior event and a Come and Tri race for beginners or those looking for a shorter, low-pressure option. Sunday 20 September features a Spring Triathlon and a Duathlon (run-bike-run). All the details are on the Live Borders website.

The current round of Wild Your Space microgrants closes on Friday 31 July. The grants of up to £350 from Bright Green Nature support individuals and schools to encourage wildlife into green spaces.
