⛅ According to the Met Office rain is forecast for much of Sunday - it might ease off the afternoon but cloud cover will remain. Monday will be a drier start but the rest of the week is likely to stay showery, with the risk of rain staying above 40% for most of Tuesday - Thursday. Temperatures up to 18° on Monday but dropping to 15° by the end of the week.

🧖🏻♀️ A bid to locate a barrel-style mobile sauna on a trailer near the Dookits in Hay Lodge Park will come to Peebles Common Good Sub-Committee for a decision this week. The park is a Common Good Asset and any applications for commercial activity in parks need to gain the approval of local councillors, supported by council officials. The applicant says a pilot phase would initially be used to test demand but is also suggesting that 26,000 visitors could use the facility in Year 1. No pricing is indicated. The proposal is in the meeting papers at agenda item 9.
The meeting will also hear an update on Kingsmeadows Toilets, Haylodge Depot and consider a plan for this year’s Highland Games in Hay Lodge Park. A proposal from Bonnie Peebles to replace the ornamental bridge in the park will also be considered.
⚽ At a special general meeting last week, the decision was taken to wind up Peebles Rovers. In a statement, the club expressed its thanks to all supporters and said it hoped that a senior club might be reformed in the future. Founded in 1888 as Greenside Rovers, the club changed name in 1890. The club withdrew from the 2025-26 East of Scotland Football League as they didn’t have a compliant ground and no alternatives could be found in the timescale.
🏛️ St Ronan’s Wells Support Group say 50 people responded to SBC’s consultation on the asset transfer request. All responses were positive. The Council are expected to consider the request to transfer the building into community ownership on 14 September. Several funding applications are also being progressed - to the Scottish Land Fund, RWE Bowbeat Community Fund and Historic Environment Scotland. A crowdfunding appeal is planned for the autumn.
🎾 Peebles Tennis Club is hoping to install a new solar photo voltaic array to the roof of the club pavilion. A planning application has been submitted for 12 panels - 6 each to the east and west elevations.

Congratulations to George Blair who is this year’s Chieftain of Peebles Highland Games. The Games take place in Hay Lodge Park on Saturday 5 September.

NEWS ROUND-UP
An attempts to form a new Upper Tweed Community Council has failed after only two nominations were received by the deadline. A minimum of five community councillors is required to re-establish the body. A new election can be arranged after three months has passed. In the meantime, the area will be without a community council and the meeting previously arranged for Monday 17 August is cancelled.
Three new board members have been appointed to South of Scotland Enterprise: Julia Molloy, Stuart McCallum and Andrew Smith. Their biogs and background can be read on the SOSE website.
