The Indian Economy Between the Numbers

One of the original themes of theGreySwan was data-driven posts.

For some time, I wrote quite a few of them:

• The State of Employment Reporting in India

• Indian Economy Outlook 2026

• Macro Patterns for the Indian Economy

Then the publication slowly moved elsewhere. More frameworks. More business history. More attempts to understand what changes beneath the visible event.

But love is love.

And, in my case, it’s the love for data.

Data as a way of noticing that two things, sitting in different reports, may actually be describing the same change.

So, here is one small step before what I eventually want to build (in the coming months).

The DataLab is now public.

It is a running account of the Indian economy, built from what people pay, buy, borrow, invest, travel and send across borders.

The numbers were already there.

The harder part was putting them close enough to begin speaking to one another. More on this, very soon.
