Federal trial attorney, Blake Horwitz, a member of The GeoFight, a coalition of attorneys and professionals committed to ending geoengineering, has released evidence that a private Israeli-U.S. corporation is actively lobbying the United States government to support its solar geoengineering initiative to dim the sun. According to publicly-available information discussed in this presentation, Stardust Solutions is seeking to release millions of tons of particulate matter into the Earth’s upper atmosphere to reflect the Sun’s rays to reduce global temperatures. This is not a theoretical discussion about a distant future technology: the company’s publicly-stated objective is to reduce temperatures by approximately 1.5 degrees Celsius, or roughly 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
The GeoFight‘s concern extends beyond the immediate effects of introducing new particles into the atmosphere. It’s this:
Throughout Earth’s history, volcanic eruptions have released enormous amounts of ash and particles into the atmosphere that reduced sunlight and lowered global temperatures. Such events are neither rare nor hypothetical— there are typically 40 to 50 volcanoes with ongoing or "continuing" eruptions at any given time, and eruptions are a recurring part of Earth’s natural systems— therefore:
What happens if Stardust Solutions reduces global temperatures at the same time a major natural cooling event, such as an eruption, occurs?
According to Horwitz, if Stardust Solutions succeeds in reducing global temperatures by 1.5 degrees Celsius and a significant volcanic eruption occurs at the same time, the combined cooling effect could reach 2.5 degrees Celsius (approximately 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit), an abrupt temperature shift that could dramatically alter weather patterns, impacting growing seasons, agricultural productivity, and food production around the world.
The GeoFight‘s concerns— echoed by hundreds of experts across the globe— deserve serious public discussion. At a minimum, the following critical questions (among others) need to be answered before Stardust begins its operations:
Should private corporations be permitted to alter atmospheric conditions on a planetary scale?
What happens if unintended consequences occur?
Who is responsible for these unintended consequences? Or if the outcome differs from what is desired?
And perhaps most importantly:
Should the public have a voice before such activities move forward?
