Hi friends,
Last call to join my summer online painting course with Stanford University Continuing Studies!
It begins tomorrow (Tuesday 6/23) at 5:30pm PT via zoom, and runs for the next 5 Tuesday evenings. If you miss a session, you can always watch the recording. In the past I’ve had students joining from all over the world and not everyone joined live, yet I was able to support them via email during the course to answer questions.
This painting class for beginners is based on my Watercolor Feast book — we paint a different seasonal ingredient each week and then I demo a recipe using that ingredient.
Fun fact: I have been teaching at Stanford in Continuing Studies for almost 15 years. For most of that time, I taught photography on campus, but when we moved to Wisconsin, they asked if I wanted to teach online and create a course based on my new painting book. YES!
Farm to Palette has been my most popular class at Stanford yet. It’s sold out every quarter, so this time we increased capacity and there are still some spots left.
Former students have told me they enjoy the privacy/intimacy of learning to watercolor paint online. One student told me that for her, the class became a relaxing creative evening at home focused on learning but without the social pressure — no comparing herself to the person painting next to her! The nice part about a live class however is that I am available in real time to answer questions…and if you miss anything, you can watch the recording later.
More info below and hope to paint with you soon!
xx
Erin
*PS: If you’re in the Madison area, paint with me in-person this weekend!
More info: Farm to Palette: Watercolor Painting for Beginners
This hands-on course is designed to introduce beginners to the art of watercolor painting through the vibrant colors and forms of seasonal fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers. Students will explore fundamental watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet blending, color mixing, layering, and creating textures to bring simple botanical illustrations to life. The course begins with guided exercises to familiarize students with tools, materials, and basic techniques, then progresses to painting simple but striking still-life illustrations of farmers’ market produce. Through these exercises and projects, students will develop their understanding of this versatile medium and gain confidence in expressing themselves creatively through watercolor.
At the end of each class session, the instructor will do a short cooking demo using some of the produce the group has painted. Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course, the cost of which will depend on students’ individual needs.
