Hi friends,

The moment we got home from California the first thing I had to do, before even walking in the house, was check on the garden. It’s gone bonkers in just 1 month! Check out the before and after:

May 29th
June 26th

We have cucumbers, squash, peppers and tomatoes well on their way. Snap peas and green beans are ready to pick! I credit this mostly the the farm-fresh soil I had delivered, and maybe beginners luck? So fun.

If you, too, are picking green beans, you might consider making this salad from my first book:

The garden has been pummeled by a tornado or 2 but looking pretty good.

I miss California’s long growing season!

In Sonoma County, my dad took the kids to his friend’s citrus tree to pick oranges for breakfast. Then we visited my parents’ huge mountaintop garden and the kids picked carrots. We BBQed the carrots then tossed them with feta, scallion, herbs, olive oil, chili crunch and lime — delicious.

These artichokes were next to our table at The Junction restaurant in Santa Rosa.
We also spent a day at Mother’s Beach on the Russian River — a spot I grew up swimming at.

En route to Disneyland, we stopped to see my family in Santa Barbara. My aunt Janet made bean tacos for dinner— what a perfect summer meal!

And of course, Disneyland was magical.

My Stanford online watercolor class started this week and almost 100 of you have joined! Thank you! Our first session was so fun…we painted ingredients from a spicy watermelon salad then made it.

Watermelon cubes topped with scallions, mint, basil, chili crunch, feta, lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper. YUM!

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you back here next Friday with a new recipe for the holiday weekend.

Cheers,

xx Erin
