Alain Delon and Murder in Paris '68

D is for Delon, Alain Delon. This week I’m sharing a my conversation with author Edward Chisholm, (who you might remember from the brilliant debut memoir A Waiter in Paris).

This time, we chatted about his new book: Murder in Paris ‘68, which goes deep on the legendary French film icon Alain Delon.

This book is all about the inner world Delon, whose life off camera included a world of gangsters, violence, and underworld Parisian conspiracies.

And most importantly, for this book at least, there’s the Marković affair, the fascinating story behind the murder of Delon’s close associate and former bodyguard.

We recorded this conversation on a hot day while sitting on the banks of the Seine, directly beneath the Quai des Orfèvres, the famous Paris police headquarters that has watched over the city’s darkest crimes for centuries.

We actually experimented with filming the conversation from nearby and even across the river, the video will come out soon (but the pic below will give you an idea where we were).

Last week I shared two brand new episodes about the 17th arrondissement. The first was a chat with top chef Tom Vickers (below), an Australian who has opened two great cafes in this intriguing district. In the pic below, you can see the tower behind us that we discussed in the episode, right in the middle of his Inform Cafe.

The second pod was my own explorations of the district with all my findings, including a look around where the Statue of Liberty was constructed (25 rue des Chazelles).

In other news, our own new book Sophie in Paris is here. We spent the last week delivering copies everywhere from the Louvre to the famed bookshops of Paris, plus a few boutiques and cafes. And we’ve almost mailed out every last pre-order, which was a mammoth job in itself.
