It is a characteristic of great managers that they get smart quick: they are pulled into a situation they are not familiar with, but a decision needs to be made nonetheless. They need to gather the relevant data, interpret it, question it, consider the unknown, navigate the ambiguity, and make that decision. Fast. Managers don’t have the luxury of sitting for a long time analyzing one thing in depth. It’s always something new, and it never stops.
