Oh, the CLARITY Act. The long running saga that is the CLARITY Act.
At this point you just have to wonder if the whole thing is even worth it. Jammed for months of ethics, and little language changes, all because the Democrats don’t want the President to profit from crypto.
I understand the side that says a President shouldn’t directly profit from financial interests they have as a result of being President.
That would amount to insider trading.
But if Congress is going to kick up a stink about that, then Nacy Pelosi’s in big trouble too. The fact there’s even an ETF named after her that follows her trades (and is highly successful, as she is) says a lot about maybe pot calling the kettle black?
The biggest adversary to CLARITY is Senator Elizabeth Warren. But then again, she’s had it in for crypto since back when Joe Biden was still President.
No great shocks there.
But as we know, CLARITY is not getting solved soon, probably not even in 2026. And while it drags on as a long running saga of 2026, the Trump’s clearly are not sitting idly by doing nothing.
While CLARITY stalls, the Trumps are off using their crypto organization World Liberty Financial, to get into banking… into the new era of banking, the stablefication era of banking.
Last week the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency signed off on a conditional approval for the World Liberty Trust Company.
Effectively WLFI will be able to bring in-house their stablecoin efforts, which up until now had been outsourced to companies like BitGo.
It will issue and redeem USD1, hold the reserve behind it, and look after digital assets for big clients. USD1 has about $4 billion out there, making it the fourth-largest stablecoin.[1]
The OCC letter says.[2]:
“The Bank’s proposed activities include dollar-backed stablecoin issuance and redemption and reserve maintenance in a nonfiduciary capacity; digital asset custody services as a fiduciary; and conversion services for custody customers in connection with their custodied assets.”
But as you read the letter it also goes through comments made about the application, including conflicts of interest that are raised through the involvement of the Trumps.
What’s great is that even with these comments (or objections as I prefer to call them) the OCC still conditionally approved the bank.
Speaking about the approval, Senator Warren said:
“President Trump is now the first President in history to approve, operate, and supervise his own bank.
“This is the most brazen act of self-dealing our financial system has ever seen — and Congress cannot allow it to stand.”[3]
Off the back of this, WLFI token price headed up over the weekend around 11%
It’s now trading over 6 cents and up about 14% for the week.
Yes, it’s still down 81% from its 33 cent highs in September last year, but considering the hammering the wider market has taken in 2026, that’s not surprising.
And it’s faring much better than the $TRUMP memecoin, which is what cops most of the flak (and rightly so) from lawmakers and regulators.
Point here is that an upstart crypto organization headed by the Witkoffs and Trumps is getting into the future of banking and stablecoins by getting a proper banking license.
It’s hard to see how this doesn’t progress further and that soon enough World Liberty Financial is a full-blown bank, with the ability to do all things banking, but tied in with the world of crypto.
It’s one of the purest forms that proves to me the convergence of TradFi and DeFi is real. Well, WLFI might not be true DeFi, but it’s certainly the convergence of crypto and global finance.
Hate the Trumps or love them, doesn’t matter. WLFI is making big moves in the banking world and may shape up as the new breed of bank, stablecoins and all.
Trust in crypto,
