Strategy (Nasdaq: MSTR) sold 1,690 Bitcoin last week[1] at an average of $64,262 a coin, well under the $75,385 cost basis on those coins.

Every dollar of it went into buying back STRC.

That’s the fourth sale of 2026, and 6,948 coins gone this year.

From the first 32 coins in May through to the 3,588 in July, Michael Sellor really did just throw away the OG playbook, didn’t he?

Considering he turned ‘never sell’ into a religion, I guess it’s fair to ask, has he lost the plot?

And then he went on a tweet storm to post about the ‘monetary spectrum’ overnight, complete with AI-generated imagery (as we all know he loves a bit of AI to help him run the company…)

I’ll share with you some of the posts. Bear in mind, they may initially resemble the workings of a madman, but stick with me and I’ll decipher them for you into plain English (or I’ll at least attempt to).

Saylor posted what he calls a monetary spectrum[2], with four assets arranged left to right.

Bitcoin is Digital Capital. It’s volatile and high-powered, but the basis of the modern iteration of sound money. It’s like modern gold.

STRC is Digital Credit. That’s Strategy’s variable rate preferred stock, semi-stable, paying a 12% cash dividend twice a month. It’s like a traditional bond.

SR-strcUSX is Digital Money, and that one is new.

So, take a breath…

Solstice Finance launched it on Solana[3] on 10 August. You get in by depositing their USX token into a vault holding STRC exposure.

If Bitcoin is digital gold, this is a claim on the income from gold that somebody else is holding…

SpaceX told investors it plans to launch a Starlink mobile service for U.S. consumers.

That’s a direct shot at Big Telecom and would put SpaceX head-to-head with Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile in a $1.6T market.

For most investors, that sounds like a telecom shakeup.

For Mode Mobile, it could be much bigger.

Mode built a platform that rewards users for everyday smartphone activity like browsing, listening, using apps, and charging.

If Starlink brings internet access to places cell towers can’t reach, it could significantly expand Mode’s addressable market.

More connected phones.

More active users.

More ways for people to earn from the device already in their pocket.

Mode has already reached 490M+ users, helped users earn and save over $1B, and generated $115M+ in cumulative revenue.

But the bigger story is what happens next.

If global connectivity keeps expanding, that model could reach more people, in more markets, with fewer barriers than ever before.

That’s why 60,000+ shareholders are already watching Mode ahead of a potential IPO.

With their Nasdaq ticker secured and more than $90M invested, Mode’s pre-IPO shares are still available at $0.52, but only until August 14.*

Strategy owns the gold, and STRC is the paper it issued against that gold, paying 12%. The vault buys the paper and cuts the income in two.

It’s a mortgage tranche, but with Bitcoin, not houses.

Then USDT is Digital Currency, stable and transactional and the thing you actually spend.

Saylor tried explaining a bit of it,

You can live on Bitcoin. You can also build on it. Crude oil is valuable, but civilization gets more utility by refining it into gasoline, jet fuel, plastics, lubricants, and asphalt. Bitcoin is Digital Capital. Innovation turns capital into credit, money, and currency[4].’

So, the Bitcoin sales aren’t a loss of faith, he’s now just trying to run a Bitcoin refinery.

None of this is new thinking. And it might sound like Saylor is some kind of Bitcoin financialization savant, but the real OG of forward Bitcoin thinking was Hal Finney.

On 30 December 2010, on the Bitcointalk forum, Hal Finney wrote that there was good reason for ‘Bitcoin-backed banks to exist, issuing their own digital cash currency[5].’

Actually, there is a very good reason for Bitcoin-backed banks to exist, issuing their own digital cash currency, redeemable for Bitcoins. Bitcoin itself cannot scale to have every single financial transaction in the world be broadcast to everyone and included in the block chain. There needs to be a secondary level of payment systems which is lighter weight and more efficient.

Bitcoin backed banks will solve these problems. They can work like banks did before nationalization of currency. Different banks can have different policies, some more aggressive, some more conservative.

And he concluded,

I believe this will be the ultimate fate of Bitcoin, to be the “high-powered money” that serves as a reserve currency for banks that issue their own digital cash. Most Bitcoin transactions will occur between banks, to settle net transfers. Bitcoin transactions by private individuals will be as rare as... well, as Bitcoin based purchases are today.

Maybe Finney ends up right, and where we are now is that mid-point to getting there.

Also, if Finney is right, I expect that greatly increases the underlying value of Bitcoin.

So yes, Saylor may appear a bit unhinged with what he’s doing now. But maybe he’s the critical link that gets us to Hal Finney’s long-standing prediction?

Digital Assets form a monetary spectrum: $BTC = Digital Capital $STRC = Digital Credit SR-strcUSX = Digital Money $USDT = Digital Currency From left to right, volatility and return potential fall while stability and transactional utility rise.
