The mission of The Comics Crowd is to curate the crowdfunding campaigns in the Kickstarter Comics category in order to identify and spotlight those projects most likely to yield actual comics and to yield the most high quality comics in terms of story, design, and cover/interior artwork.

Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen is the tale of Cager Dobbin, a local hired gun, and his battle to survive and destroy the monstrous, Apocalyptic Horsemen who emerge, one by one from nowhere, to obliterate his town of Promise.
But why did the Horsemen target his town? Why did they hunt him and his circle to near annihilation? What unseen master unleashes them on the world? And what arcane power do they wield so destructively?
Over the 264 pages of story in these three volumes of Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen, Cager embarks on a quest to answer those harrowing questions and, in so doing, must overcome his old frenemy Wilbur Fairless - in many lethal forms - on his mission of vengeance against the celestial forces that ignited the Steampunk Apocalypse.
Eight comics launched over August 23–24 — $13,221 raised from 354 backers. Two of the eight were NSFW.
HAUNTING #1-8 alone raised $6,559 against a $9,000 goal — roughly half of every comics dollar that moved across both days combined.
Funding ranged from $85 (Professor Possum Issue #1) to $6,559 (HAUNTING #1-8) — a 77x spread inside the same two-day slate.
Four of the eight comics are continuations of an existing series — a finale (HAUNTING), two numbered sequels (Funktastic Adventure #2, Kriegsgeneration 2), and a level-up (GOBBLERS - Level 4) — the other four are new #1s.
One non-comics campaign also launched — a pin-up/concept-art collection.
Phil Falco (Lifeline Comics) · Supernatural horror, series finale
Eight issues in, Falco is closing HAUNTING out the way a finale should: ghost hunter Hope forced into an uneasy alliance with the bratty teenage magnet-for-the-dead she once tried to kill, just to take down her own possessed ex-girlfriend. Falco and artist Mauricio Mora have run this as a disciplined, campaign-by-campaign serial for two years now, and 171 backers showing up for the last chapter says something about the loyalty that builds when a series actually delivers issue after issue. Not the place to jump on if you’re new to the series — but proof a horror comic can build real readership one Kickstarter at a time.
$6,559 raised / 171 backers / 73% funded
Nina Poulston (story/art), published by Simon Birks / Blue Fox Comics · Gothic horror romance
A widow tending an empty manor she swears still remembers its previous mistress — this is atmosphere-first horror, and Poulston (of A Town by the Sea) has the linework to sell the dread before anything supernatural actually happens. Early reviews are already calling out the slow-build intensity, which tracks: this is a mood piece more than a jump-scare machine, and it’s better for it. Comfortably overfunded at 179% with nine days still on the clock.
$1,217 raised / 88 backers / 179% funded
Joseph Jasionowski (writer) / Elton Thomasi (art), Colosseum Comics · Dark fantasy adventure
A Roman warrior cursed into a hellhound, a samurai, and an arms dealer team up to do the impossible and kill Satan — a big, pulpy premise that Jasionowski (Janitor Hero, Lionborne, The Cicada Mask) leans all the way into instead of undercutting with irony. It’s his first campaign under his own name, but the résumé shows, and 89% funded on a book that isn’t leaning on a built-in series audience is a real signal. Worth a look if “mature fantasy adventure” scratches an itch straight-faced superhero books don’t.
$1,782 raised / 28 backers / 89% funded
The haves-and-have-nots gap is real, and it’s steep. Professor Possum Issue #1 opened at $85 from 5 backers; HAUNTING’s finale opened at $6,559 from 171 — a 77x gap between the top and bottom of the same two-day slate, with nothing in the middle to smooth the curve. It doesn’t map cleanly onto new-vs-established either: Professor Possum and TEN MINUTES are both debut #1s that underperformed, but so did Kriegsgeneration 2, a numbered sequel from a 12-campaign veteran. What HAUNTING, Julius, and Bats in the Attic share instead is an audience a creator already built somewhere else — Lifeline Comics’ seven prior HAUNTING campaigns, Jasionowski’s résumé on other studios’ books, Poulston’s existing readership from A Town by the Sea. Newness doesn’t explain the gap; a pre-built audience does.
Average pledge tells a different story than total raised. HAUNTING’s $38.36 average across 171 backers is a broad, low-friction ask. GOBBLERS - Level 4 ($74.91 average on 35 backers) and Funktastic Adventure #2 ($64.83 average on just 6) show the opposite pattern — a small group buying deep into higher reward tiers rather than a large group buying cheap. Two different fundraising strategies landing on similar-looking dollar totals for very different reasons.
Genre skewed toward horror and dark fantasy, with superhero work running at a slant. HAUNTING, Bats in the Attic, and Julius: The Werehound between them account for three of the day’s eight comics and the bulk of the money raised. The two superhero-adjacent entries didn’t play it straight, either — Kriegsgeneration 2 is a German-language deconstruction of American ‘90s/’00s cape tropes, and Professor Possum is a magical-girl/buddy-comedy hybrid rather than anything earnest. NSFW and all-ages material ran side by side with no correlation to funding: GOBBLERS - Level 4 outraised every comic on the slate except the three Comics I Like picks.
Geographic spread. This slate ran from Barnstable, MA and Austin, TX to Savannah, GA and New York, NY, plus three international entries — Kriegsgeneration 2 out of Hamburg, Germany; Bats in the Attic out of Edinburgh, UK; and TEN MINUTES out of Santander, Spain.

HFX: JUNGLE BOOGIE V01 ART BOOK (DIGITAL CAMPAIGN) — PerForce Publishing · $705 raised / 23 backers · FUNDED ✓ (712%) · A 32-page pin-up and concept-art collection from Kirk Lindo’s Vamperotica sketchbook series — illustration, not sequential comic art.
Creator: Hannes Klesse · Location: Hamburg, Germany · Genre: Superhero War Drama · Goal: $583 · Raised: $461 (79% funded) · Backers: 15 · Avg pledge: $30.73 · End date: September 23, 2026 · Prior campaign history: Klesse has run 12 prior Kickstarter projects (1 backed), including the eight-part Starchild saga (concluded with Starchild 8 - Finale) and Kriegsgeneration Part 1, which funded at 185%.
Kriegsgeneration 2 continues the successor saga to Klesse’s Starchild universe, pairing a coming-of-age drama with an epic superhero war story. The German-language pitch draws explicitly on ‘90s and 2000s American superhero comics, then works to question and deconstruct those clichés rather than simply imitate them — one preview image shows a battle-scarred hero hooked to hospital monitors, a deliberately unglamorous beat for the genre. No sequential interior art appeared in the submitted screencap, though the concept art shown suggests the same moody, painterly finish that carried the Starchild run.
Day-1 note: $461 from 15 backers against a $583 goal (79% funded) with 29 days to go — a slow-and-steady pace typical of a campaign leaning on a creator’s existing universe rather than chasing a cold audience.

Creator: Isaiah Broussard (50 Fifty Comix) · Location: Austin, TX · Genre: Sci-Fi Adventure Comedy · Goal: $2,000 · Raised: $389 (19% funded) · Backers: 6 · Avg pledge: $64.83 · End date: September 25, 2026 · Prior campaign history: Broussard has run 6 prior Kickstarter projects (58 backed), including Funktastic Adventure #1, now sold in 50 Fifty Comix’s own shop in digital and print.
Mo Love and his crew of galactic hustlers are back, chasing down a young serial burglar to solve a money problem of their own making — and discovering they’re not the only ones on his trail. It’s a breezy, funk-inflected space-heist premise that leans on banter and personality over hard sci-fi mechanics, picking up directly where the first issue left off. Broussard’s animation background shows in the cover’s clean, expressive character work.
Day-1 note: $389 raised on just 6 backers gives this one the day’s second-highest average pledge ($64.83) — a small, committed audience buying deep rather than a broad one buying cheap. 31 days remain and the campaign is still well short of its $2,000 goal.

Creator: Avry Ott · Location: Savannah, GA · Genre: Superhero Comedy · Goal: $1,500 · Raised: $85 (6% funded) · Backers: 5 · Avg pledge: $17.00 · End date: October 2, 2026 · Prior campaign history: Ott has run 8 prior Kickstarter projects (10 backed), including two enamel-pin campaigns (Staten Island Vampires Hard Enamel Pins, Sci-Fi Fantasy Pins); this is Ott’s debut comic project.
Lucy Le is a broke college student whose professor moonlights — while asleep — as a dream-dimension superhero named Professor Possum, leaving her to babysit his unconscious body and fend off pajama-wearing assassins. It’s pitched as “Sailor Moon meets Scott Pilgrim,” and the workplace-comedy angle — a superhero who “kinda sucks as a boss” — gives it a hook beyond the usual magical-girl setup. Artists Sooz and Betou give it a punchy, sketchbook-adjacent character design.
Day-1 note: $85 from 5 backers, 6% of goal, with 38 days still to go — the slowest start on this slate by a wide margin, though there’s a long runway left to build momentum.

2. TEN MINUTES — TOO CLOSE TO RESIST — StudyComics — $106 — 6 backers — Goal $115 — 92% funded — Avg pledge $17.67 — Romance Drama — Funding, 28 days to go
Creator: Stef Wilson, with Kerry Anne & Wendy Steen Shaner · Location: Barnstable, MA · Genre: Fantasy Adventure · Goal: $1,500 · Raised: $2,622 (175% funded) · Backers: 35 · Avg pledge: $74.91 · End date: September 4, 2026 · Prior campaign history: Wilson has run 5 prior Kickstarter projects (156 backed), including Gobblers Levels 1 through 3, all funded well above goal (Level 2 at 431%, Level 3 at 329%).
Adventuring trio Paisley, Grudge, and Smudge are back for a fourth outing after surviving the Dread Forest and the Dungeon of Doom, promising more monsters, treasure, and “a few more victories than disasters.” The submitted materials describe a comedic, character-driven fantasy romp rather than anything explicit; the campaign’s own page is the accurate source for the specifics behind this listing’s 18+ designation, since they aren’t visible in the funding-data screencap. Adult content — 18+ only.
Day-1 note: Level 4 is comfortably funded at 175% with 35 backers and a $74.91 average pledge — the highest average on the whole slate outside the Comics I Like picks, and a strong signal this series has built real repeat-backer loyalty across four campaigns.

Creator: StudyComics · Location: Santander, Spain · Genre: Romance Drama · Goal: $115 · Raised: $106 (92% funded) · Backers: 6 · Avg pledge: $17.67 · End date: September 22, 2026 · Prior campaign history: none.
A digitally-illustrated melodrama built around a forbidden-attraction premise between a young man and his father’s wife, told in the dense-panel style common to webtoon-influenced manhwa. The pitch centers the tension of two people sharing a house neither chose to share, framed around a single ten-minute inciting moment the campaign leans on for its hook. Content here is described based on what’s visible in the submitted materials; the campaign page itself is the accurate source for full context. Adult content — 18+ only.
Day-1 note: $106 raised against a modest $115 goal puts this at 92% funded with 28 days left — a small-scale campaign likely to clear its bar with room to spare.
