One of the most ethnically unique outdoor events in the Midwest — 40,000+ attendees, a lion dance procession opening at 12:30pm, kung fu demonstrations, arts and crafts, street vendors, and cuisine from Chinatown’s restaurants and unique gift shops. Pair it with the Chinese-American Museum on Wentworth: most fair-goers walk right past it. Bring cash for the food booths. The Japanese Culture Center installs ikebana flower arrangements from two schools — Ikenobo and Ohara Ryu — in over a dozen storefronts along Southport Avenue, alongside avant-garde Japanese calligraphy and origami.
