A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post about CHASING JOY during a heavily advertised week of sales and deals and discounts and being reminded by advertising everywhere how nothing in my life could be enough - because it wasn’t the freshest, newest, or most expensive version.

In that article, I wrote about a hobby I’ve been considering starting because everyone around me was doing it.

Now, I used to be a girlie who would avoid the popular thing, but in the last several years, I’ve become a girlie who loves to embrace the trend. 🀄️🍵🪡

And here’s why:

Embracing the trend?

Going to the Eras Tour with 3 of my bffs, hosting weekly Mahjong nights, and shopping for needlepoint with my friend?

IT’S SOOO FUN!!!

So anyways, in my last article I wrote that I’m considering needlepoint, and I IMMEDIATELY got this text:

Okay, so I’m OBVIOUSLY gonna reach out to Syd for that.

ANDDD I have another friend who’s a needlepoint stan, so of course I texted her too:

Fast forward 20 minutes & I understand the basics of needlepoint (THANKS, @SAMMI!) AND I have plans with Syd to go shopping for needlepoint patterns LITERALLY THE NEXT DAY:

Which then, of course, I reported back:

And the next thing I know, my husband texts me this:

This interaction got me allll fired up, and I just knew I had to write about it because THIS is networking in action my friends!!!

But not the cold LinkedIn outreach kind. Not the awkward coffee chat with a stranger kind. Not the “Hey, can I pick your brain?” via text kind.

Just normal human beings sharing what they’re excited about and helping each other make connections.

And that’s the kind of networking that gets you a job.

But too often my clients hear “network to get a job” and think they have to be connecting left and right with recruiters on LinkedIn (how overwhelming… even I don’t love doing that!).

Fortunately for you, there’s another way - and it follows the exact system I used to learn needlepoint.

So in the paid section of this newsletter, I’m going to break down exactly how to use your network to get a job - following the easy, breezy method of networking demonstrated in my example above!

So let’s break down the formula I followed to use my network to learn needlepoint (and then I’ll tie it back to career, I promise):
