Happy Thursday!!
This week, I sat down to write this newsletter: “How I Use My Network To Get A Job,” and it felt like such. a. slog.
Because this week, I feel exhausted by the noise and inundated with advertisements:
Prime Day deals
Creators selling me on their newest viral content method or Claude hack
Emails telling me exactly what I should buy for my 24-week old baby
Coaches launching their newest course, challenge, mastermind, membership, framework, and formula
And underneath all of these advertisements are subtle pressures:
To have the newest bargain item that makes my life better…
To optimize or improve my business funnel and lead generation…
To buy the right toy for this stage of motherhood so my baby develops on time…
To keep up with people who position their businesses as better or higher performing…
And while I understand it - I run a business, too - I have been feeling my soul draining every time I open social media.
All I want to do right now is:
read the Magnolia magazine my mother-in-law passed along to me
drink a a vanilla almond milk latte
take a walk to my in laws’ house across the block
watch the newest episode of Sweet Magnolias on my couch
scroll my phone while my 5.5 month old baby takes crib naps (finally!!! thanks @DANA | Mom to 4)
help my friend think through her bathroom renovation
play Mahjong with the girlies while one of them pours her heart out over her relationship
eat so many mochi donuts I get a stomach ache
home pop some popcorn and slather it with coconut oil, salt, and nutritional yeast
curl up with that beach read that’s been untouched on my nightstand for far too long
maybe start needlepointing? (open to recs here!)
So, that’s what you’re getting today!
That’s me this week.
Not a career coach giving you a 5-step method. Not a business owner trying to meet my revenue goals. And not a content creator trying to come up with something profound to say to nearly 10,000 of you.
Just a girl. Just a mom.
Just a person enjoying a slow summer week and giving you the permission to do the same.
Because it’s so easy to open your email inbox or social media apps and feel the pressure to devote every moment of our lives in the service of becoming ‘better’.
A better professional.
A better entrepreneur.
A better parent.
A better version of ourselves.
This week, I’m focusing on enjoying instead.
Chasing hobbies over side hustles, soaking up snuggles over sales, and sending this post instead of another step-by-step tutorial.
It’s summer.
The days are long. Your friends are texting. The pool is open. The book you’ve been meaning to read is sitting there waiting for you.
I’m gonna close my laptop & go enjoy it all. Come back next week for career strategy - maybe I’ll even write that piece about using your network to get a job.
But I’ll leave you with this reminder today: while it’s good to be ambitious, it’s also good to be human.
And every now and then, it’s okay to set down the goals, ignore the sale, skip the webinar…
and choose the latte, the Mahjong game, and the mochi donut instead. ☕️🀄️🍩
Have a beautiful weekend.
XOX,
Abbey
