Call centers and business process outsourcers face intense competition from AI, as it can eliminate some customer interactions entirely, automate others, and make the human agents who handle the most complicated matters more productive. In short, if something is simple and unimportant enough to offshore, it is likely a good candidate for AI automation.

Notable AI-powered startups in the space include Decagon, which in January 2026 raised $250 million at a $4.5 billion valuation to build personalized AI customer service. Last year, Decagon added “more than 100 new global enterprise customers, like Avis Budget Group, Block, and Deutsche Telekom.” Other notable AI-powered startups include Wonderful AI, which raised $150 million at a $2 billion valuation in March 2026, Parloa, which raised $350 million at a $3 billion valuation in January 2026 to “automate customer service for large enterprises,” Deepgram, which raised $130 million at a $1.3 billion valuation in January, and PolyAI, shown below:
