Monica Leonelle · The Author Ecosystems

What is Author Ecosystems? It’s a framework that helps you better understand how to build marketing and sales for your books so you can build a more safe, secure, and sustainable business.

There are six archetypes, and three are growth archetypes associated with the sales funnel, while the other three are monetization archetypes associated with the fandom flywheel.

  • You have a base archetype that is pretty much your most organic, intuitive way of marketing and sales.

  • You also have a symbiotic archetype which is across from your type. For example, Grasslands and Forests are symbiotic—one is growth through funnel (Grassland), the other is monetization through flywheel (Forest), and when you put them together you have…A secure, functioning business. The first evolution is to develop your symbiotic archetype.

  • You then have your ecotonal archetypes (your neighbors). Since Author Ecosystems types are laid out on a spectrum, you have an organic access to and understanding of these neighbors and can “channel” them fairly easily once you see them for what they are.

  • And finally, you have your two pollen path archetypes. Once you access an archetype, it’s easier to learn and understand their symbiotic archetype too. These are the derivatives. They are two degrees from you, and you access them through accumulating other archetypes, so that they are only one degree from you.

The six types form a biosphere, and a biosphere company has an extremely healthy, secure, and predictable sales and marketing strategy. You have strong and predictable growth + strong and predictable monetization. This can be had with just one funnel + flywheel combination too, but we’re building a marketing and sales fortress here.

In general, I see:

  • Six figure authors as having mastered their base + symbiotic

  • Seven figure authors as having mastered their base + symbiotic + one of the other ecotonal + symbiotic pairings

Once your company has all six types, you move on to the next phase of trying to keep those types in balance. Each part of the biosphere affects all others, and if one gets whack, the whole biosphere can start to have problems. We see this with both small and large companies every day!
