SCOWL, a queer- and trans-focused stage combat collective, presents SCOWL: QUEERAPALOOZA as part of FRIGID’s 2026 Queerly Festival. SCOWL: QUEERAPALOOZA showcases a multitude of queer artists engaging in pro wrestling-style bouts of stage combat, interspersed with interstitial acts of clowning, drag, and comedy.
SCOWL Heavyweight champion, April Rain, has no intention of losing her title as she celebrates a decade of dominance as champ! Plenty of challengers are ready to knock her down a peg and take her title as she offers her annual “Pride Open Challenge” to anyone on the SCOWL roster! Could Rhonda McConners step up? Maybe the original party werewolf, London Jack, will answer the call for a rematch. Or perhaps a new challenger will rise? Watch and see who will come out on top and leave with the title!

This all-Asian-American production of the relatively obscure Shakespeare trilogy of Henry VI is epic in multiple senses. Performed in four acts across two performances with a total run time of almost six hours, it follows a series of territorial and political conflicts under King Henry VI’s reign. The scale of this play makes for an undeniably epic undertaking by this formidable cast. Between the performances, the sound design, and the staging, especially the stage combat, pretty much everything clicks. Read more

3 actors, 3 instruments, a handful of lighting cues — that’s almost everything this play has, and somehow it’s exactly enough. The lead actor can shift a scene from laughter to tension and heartbreak in a heartbeat. One moment the audience is chuckling; the next, the room is holding its breath. And somehow he’s doing all of this while playing the piano quite professionally. Watching the performers move so effortlessly between musicianship and acting is one of the production’s greatest pleasures. Read more
