Angie’s new course is offered inside the membership group Centered from acclaimed author/writing teacher Sarah Selecky. For only US$38, you get Angie’s course plus a whole month to explore all the cool services and rich library of workshops in Centered.
As copywriters, we must balance the wants and needs of a whole cast of characters: clients, customer personas, subject matter experts, reviewers…
But they sometimes disagree, and it’s up to us to sort out their differences. That’s what it takes to develop an effective white paper.
But did you realize you also have a cast of characters?
And that those characters can be at cross-purposes? That they can hold you back from doing the things you most want?
The Buddha, though deeply revered throughout India, was still visited by Mara, the Demon-God. Mara would attack him with anger, doubt, fear, greed, and lust.
But instead of ignoring the demon, or trying to drive them away, the Buddha would simply say, “I see you, Mara. Come and sit down for tea.”
This is the inspiration for this unique three-week exploration that uses your writing and character-building skills to “sit down for tea” with the forces holding you back.
Tea with Your Shadow Characters will run for three consecutive Thursdays at 11:30 am to 1 pm Eastern, starting September 25 and wrapping up October 9.
The content is based on the Internal Family Systems Model as described by Dr. Richard C. Schwartz in his book No Bad Parts.
So check out this cool new course from Angie. The fee is only US$38, and that gets you a whole month to check out Centered as well. That’s a deal beyond compare!
I’m going to be there, and I hope you will join us.
Centered includes spaces to write to prompts and get feedback, check-ins on your writing goals, group support to submit your work, and a rich library of past workshops.
You can find sessions on how to publish personal essays, write that novel, understand what agents want, and find pleasure in your writing life.
Centered is very different from what I’ve done at That White Paper Guy, which was all practical tips and advice on business writing. Centered is for anyone interested in writing memoir or fiction, and it’s brilliant.
Angie often tells me about some fresh insight she gained from belonging.
Now it’s her turn to help you enjoy some new writing adventures, with this exciting new course offered for the first time.
Angie has made her way in the world with her writing for 35+ years. She was Managing Editor and partner at That White Paper Guy and the “secret weapon” who helped Gordon Graham complete hundreds of white papers.
Among her other adventures, Angie was the founder of the Thessalon writing group To the Point, which propelled many of its members to success with grants and publications.
She also co-founded Stories in the North, the little literary festival that hosted author reading and music nights, writing workshops, and open mike nights (with cash prizes!).
After a Stage IV breast cancer diagnosis in 2021, Angie is now in stable health, enjoying a new role as a lay preacher in the United Church of Canada and working with her inner critic to decide on her next creative adventure.
Anna is an Internal Family Systems therapist, who came to her practice through the arts. She graduated from the full-time performance program at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier International School of Theatre inParis and London. When working with the community teaching theatre, she developed a method based on tapping into the pleasure to play. She discovered that the thawing of blocks to creative flow meant that the rising tides of unexpressed wounds needed a sacred space for healing.
Along this journey, she received a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University and completed three years of training and supervision in Play Therapy. Earlier on, she also completed an Honours Degree in Culture Studies specializing in image, sound, and performance. Over time she has trained extensively in experiential psychotherapies such as Internal Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapies and Expressive Arts Therapy modalities across the lifespan.
