We’ve reached the time of year when I’m so over summer fashion, but it’s still 90 degrees. So, what you’ll start to see in my weekly outfits are richer colors, some long-sleeved tops, and even some jeans mixed in. And in the South, we have “hot fall” where it’ll be in the 80s well into September. So for me, summer-to-fall transition outfits aren’t about choosing what to wear with fluctuating temperatures, but more so about how I make my outfits feel like fall when I still am sweating through my shirts on a 20 minute walk.

Per usual, direct links to shop the exact items are below each photo. If you want to save something for later without losing the links, LTK is the easiest way I’ve found to do that. And, it’ll notify you if something goes on sale, which is a feature I love. ShopMy may have this feature too… I just haven’t figured it out yet. But, you can always find all of my outfits on ShopMy too.

And in case it’s helpful, I’m 41 years old, 5’1” and roughly 120 lbs with very muscular legs and a broad-ish back. I typically buy an XS or small in tops and bottoms, but when in doubt, I always size up.

I haven’t invested in nice athleisure in a long time… and maybe that’s why I’ve never really liked athleisure. It just always felt like glorified workout clothes. Varley has changed the game of athleisure, and I’m in love with nearly everything on their site - but it’s pricey. (The Soft Lux line from Adidas and Target’s Airy Sleek are similar and much more budget-friendly. I wear my pieces from there often, but Varley is in a different league.)

I wish I’d bought this Varley set in a different color since it definitely feels springy/summery, but I love it so much that I’ll likely break down and buy another color anyway (it comes in dozens).

  • Shorts - I’m wearing a small

  • Top - I’m wearing a small but could have done an XS.

  • Sandals

I always golf a heck of a lot more in Boone than I do in Winston, so I put some of my nice golf clothes up there. A. Putnam makes absolutely gorgeous golf clothes that I often wear even if I’m not golfing. If you don’t golf, I’m not sure I’d invest in it, but if you do golf, I promise you’ll wear it for years.

  • Skort

  • Top

  • Bag

  • Sneakers - Vejas run in European sizing. I wear a US 6.5/7 and always get a size 37.

What I tried first: I first put on this striped shirt, but I felt so icky in it. And I realized the last two times I wore it, I had to talk myself into liking it. I love the shirt shape (I own it in black, white, and a navy stripe - which I even packed for Utah a couple weeks ago), but I just don’t like the color of these stripes. It’s pricey, so I told myself it was cute, but I didn’t feel cute in it. I traded it for the below button-down and loved the outfit. The striped tee went in the consignment pile.

Once I swapped the tee for the button-down, I loved this outfit and saved it to my favorites. (When I am in a hurry, I often reference my own ShopMy page so I can quickly recreate a cute outfit!)

  • Shorts - These are my favorites lately since I’m over summer and the brown feels like pre-fall. Size down.

  • Shirt - This was gifted from Monrow, and I love it (and wear it often), but this top is a more affordable option I bought earlier this year and love too.

  • Sandals - Lately, I like choosing my shoes to be slightly ironic. A button-down would lend itself to a dressier shoe, like loafers, but flip-flops make the outfit feel lived-in and practical, which I love.

  • Tote - I love this but am having a hard time styling it. And there are no interior pockets, which is annoying.

  • Shorts- I’m wearing these because they were clean, but I like my Amazon dupes even better, and they’re cheaper.

  • Top - I love the top - size up! (The matching leggings are insanely flattering too.) And if you really want to go all-out, the jacket makes your waist look itty bitty. It’s too hot for jackets right now, but we’ll need them soon. Can’t wait!

  • Sneakers - my favorite lifting shoes. I’ve bought them 2x now and worn my first pair for 3+ years.

  • Socks - The best ankle socks. I find ankle socks can be cute or make my legs look stubby depending on where they hit, and these are perfect.

I’ve worn this dress too many times to count. I’m not really into florals but striped or solid dresses can start to feel uninspiring, so I love the geometric print of this dressed, especially paired with the lace neckline. More dresses like this, please, Madewell!

  • Dress - Sizes are flying. I’m wearing an XS but probably could have done a S. If you need a size small, it’s on sale here. They also sell it in a top version - I’ll likely grab the black.

  • Shoes - on sale. Size up if you’re between sizes.

  • Bag - Tommy got this for me for my birthday years ago and I still love it.

  • Pants - best Amazon find ever. I wear these to fly a lot too.

  • Tee - this was gifted from Faherty for a partnership and I love it so much, I’ll likely buy a few more colors. The fit is perfect, and it’s insanely soft.

  • Tote - I have this in two colors, and it’s the best mom purse ever!

  • Sandals - These are Margaux and will last a lifetime, but honestly, my Amazon dupes are more comfortable.

Maybe I don’t hate athleisure after all - I mean, look at how often I wore it in the past week. I think the key for me is that I have to wear accessories, and I can’t wear something that I work out in. I loathe not feeling put together during the day — even if I’m not going anywhere - but I think I’ve found a happy medium of super comfortable and cute.
