I thought there could be 3 bid stealers and in the end just one as Utah State wins the Mountain West and VCU win in the Atlantic 10 title.
I think separation between TCU, SMU vs Oklahoma, Auburn is pretty clear and other bubble teams just had some awful losses down the stretch.
Not the year for the expansion argument, but I still believe if you expanded to 76 teams (always remember 2024 Indiana State), you would need to have a requirement that could benefit conference champion teams that lose in their tournament get 4 of 8 spots in First Four (Belmont, Yale, UNCW) or a rule that an at-large team would have to be over .500 in games against Q1 vs Q3 teams, something that Texas didn’t do again this season and might help with scheduling early in the season.
However, both these rules in theory, would likely be hard to enforce and an expansion to 76 likely would have seen a 17-16 Auburn squad easily in the field this season
