Share Team 91 Charlotte’s Substack

We recently reached 45 players in the 2027 class that have made a verbal commitment to play college lacrosse. That’s an incredibly impressive number.

What’s better is that we’ll likely have another 5-10 more commit before the end of the month.

It’s also a real 45 guys. Not just a marketing play trying to link ourselves to players for clout. These are our guys.

We know them all, we have actually coached them and we have real relationships with them. With each one of them, we likely sat down with them and their parents in person or on a conference call to discuss the recruiting process. We spent time with them before or after practices discussing the process. We answered the anxiety filled text or email when things maybe weren’t going their way or they just needed help navigating a situation. We probably even spoke to their eventual college coach about what they are like as people and players.

These are guys that we were able to have a real positive impact on as we played a part in them reaching their goal of committing to play college lacrosse.

That’s special.

James Hedley has been scrapping at the faceoff X with Emmet Drensek and Jason Leonard running all over the field since middle school. Hudson Higbea, Will Roye, Eddie Grasty, James Pawlowski and Chase Covey might have played 1,000 games together on defense at this point. When Kircher, Henry, Josh, Trent, Ronan and everyone else came along over the years, they welcomed them with open arms. Stew Robinson was crushing day camp at Davie Park as a youngster. Jamo Dow’s brother was a standout on our 2021 team and he’s been hanging around the program ever since. Me, Seth Popow and Brett Stack had a heart to heart (not sure if they will call it that) at a tournament 3-4 years ago… now they are headed to Ohio State and Loyola, respectively. Ethan Covey has been doing the drive from Chapin, SC to Charlotte for years. Jamison Porterfield has been making the trek from Dorman since his older from Max started with us. Caleb Nicola’s brother was on the 2024s. Peter Dolan’s brother Brady showed up at our first ever 91 South 2024 team tryouts and Peter followed soon after with the 2027s. Walker Riordan started playing with us in our old Team 91 Triad program after coming to a few training sessions at the Fulton YMCA. Myer Stovall was on our first ever 91 South 2027 team. Chase McDonald and Bowan Ireland showed up at South camp and didn’t really say a word. They filled up the net with goals for a few days then started talking to us.

I could keep going on them all. It’s been a pleasure to be around the group and spend as much time with them all as much as I have over the years.

Outside of the people and the moments we have had together, there are two things that really stand out to me about what they have accomplished:

- The quality. When you look at the list of schools these guys are going to, it’s really, really impressive. On the athletic side, the commitment list is loaded with some of the best programs in college lacrosse. On the academic side, they are going to some of the best schools in the world in places like Brown, Cornell, Amherst, Washington & Lee, Tufts, Richmond, Boston U., UNC, Bucknell, Lehigh, Kenyon, Denison, etc.

- The depth. 45+ players is A LOT of guys! That’s not one team. I think the depth shows that whether you’re on a 91 Charlotte Blue or White team or a 91 South Blue or Orange team, there is a path to play college lacrosse and we can help you get there.

Finally, our 2027s are more proof that if you work hard enough, you can reach your goals of playing college lacrosse anywhere in the country when you play here. The success of groups like them in the recruiting process means college coaches have to watch our future teams and players. Their success will open doors for our younger players for years to come. They have raised the bar not just for everyone in our program but for lacrosse players all over the southeast.

Now the really fun part. We get to sit back and be fans of them as they enjoy great college lacrosse careers and potentially future pro careers!
