Don’t go crazy with this and fill it with a million things. Remember, you’re not organizing everything, just the stuff you actually reach for every day.
No more searching. Just grab and go.
I’ve been thinking about this analogy a lot lately for my approach to work. Let me explain.
When lifting weights in the gym, the goal is to work towards lifting heavier weights over time (progressive overload).
You curl with 15lb dumbbells, then 20s, then 25s…
But if you start with 35s right away you might be able to swing the weight up using momentum, but you aren’t lifting with proper form.
When you lift with bad form, you are:
risking serious injury.
reinforcing bad movement patterns.
wasting energy on inefficient lifts.
limiting strength and muscle growth.
In short, you’re wasting your time.
You’re spending all this time getting ready for the gym, driving to the gym, paying for a gym membership - and you’re getting very little out of it.
If you want to lift with proper form, do some research on what proper form looks like for that lift, drop down to a much lighter weight, practice good form by trying it out and getting feedback from someone who can watch, and start the process of progressive overload all over again.
It might hurt our ego to drop down in weight, but we are making progress by going backward so that we can go forward in the right direction.
Now apply all of this to your business/job.
In what ways are you working with bad form?
Are you scaling without systems in place?
Saying yes to more clients than you can handle?
Delegating without clear instructions or ownership?
Running on adrenaline and reacting instead of planning?
Just like in the gym, you might be “lifting heavy” by growing fast and doing more, but if your form is off, you’re reinforcing bad patterns that will eventually catch up with you.
You’ll burn out and keep the business from truly growing.
Instead:
Drop the weight - say no to something, strip back your offerings, or slow down.
Study proper form - reflect, research, ask questions.
Rebuild from a lighter load - document your process, refine your calendar, fix that clunky system.
Get feedback - from a coach, a peer, your team.
Then grow intentionally - this time with clarity and sustainability.
It might feel like a step backward. But it’s actually the most strategic thing you can do.
If you check email 147 times a day… this one’s for you.
Inbox When Ready is a free Chrome extension that hides your inbox by default. You can also schedule custom times when it locks your inbox, so you could have scheduled times to check email once or twice a day… imagine. 😮💨
It’s an easy switch that helps you control when you see your inbox (instead of letting it control you).
I’ve been using it recently and it’s crazy how often I click on my email reflexively when I’m not clear on what I’m working on.
Try it for a week - your focus will thank you.
👋 When you’re ready, here are 2 ways I can help you:
