Visual Echoes is an educational program that offers an opportunity to explore the traditional tools used by the people of Bungamati, Nepal, in their daily lives. This program highlights the significance of these tools from the 1960s, showcasing how they made life easier for the community. Today, many of these tools have been replaced by modern equipment, making them rare and culturally valuable.

Taragaon Next is excited to collaborate with Placemaking Nepal to host an exclusive screening of the documentary “Close Encounters of the 34th Avenue Kind”, a 68-minute film by Streetfilms (New York) on open streets and the power of public space.

This will be an exclusive screening in Kathmandu and the first international screening of the documentary.

Who is this film for?

This screening is for anyone interested in cities, public spaces, community, placemaking, urban design, architecture, mobility, culture, or simply curious about how small local actions can transform neighbourhoods.

About the documentay film:

The 68 minute documentary tells the inspiring story of how one residential street in New York City evolved into a thriving community space through an Open Streets initiative. While rooted in New York, its themes of public space, community, and placemaking are universally relevant and offer meaningful reflections for Kathmandu.

This open stage event is the perfect place to showcase your talents. Whether you are an occasional performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, this welcoming platform is open to any type of performance, from music and dance to poetry, storytelling, and stand-up comedy.
You can join the excitement as a performer or simply come as an audience member to cheer your friends on. While performers must register to secure a spot, audience members can just show up without signing up.
So unleash your talents, express yourself, and bring your creative side to this open stage. We cannot wait to see you shine!

Shabdakiri Saajh is an open literary platform dedicated to celebrating stories, poetry, and emerging voices, every evening on the first Saturday of every Nepali month at 4 p.m.

Free entry! Please note that participants and viewers will only be allowed to enter after 3:30 pm.

Whether you’re skilled in art or just someone who likes to draw sometimes, this is where you have the opportunity to turn our grounds into your open-air exhibition.

It can be messy, it can be silly, it can draw inspiration from what you see, Taragaon is your canvas, and chalk is your medium!

Chalk will be supplied and you’re free to draw anywhere on the grounds of Taragaon.
