Let’s get to the point about love: There are some common misconceptions about what love is and isn’t, which can create confusion, a sense of loss, misunderstandings and hurt.
Therefore, I’ve listed a few things of what love isn’t and doesn’t do.
Love isn’t separate from us.
Love doesn’t need to be earned.
Love doesn’t come to us as a reward.
Love doesn’t need any reason to love.
Love isn’t something bought or sold.
Love doesn’t need permission to be felt.
Love doesn’t hurt.
Let’s break this down further:
Love isn’t separate from us.
Perhaps you believe that love isn’t part of who you are and only can exist when someone else shows you love and when someone else loves you. This is a fallacy. Love is built right into our cells, our souls and exists because we exist.
Love doesn’t need to be earned.
You don’t need to be a certain way, do a certain thing, achieve a certain goal, become a certain type of person, reach a certain status or belong to a certain group to receive love. Again, love is already within.
Love doesn’t come to us as a reward.
If someone is withholding love because they do not feel you are worthy of it or you haven’t completed a certain task or behaved in a certain way, that is not love. Love isn’t a reward for good behaviour. If you are experiencing someone withholding love, then love yourself enough to leave. Love yourself enough to know that you are worthy of deep love.
Love doesn’t need a reason to love.
Love is love. There is no reason to love but to love. Loving someone because they do a certain thing or make you feel a certain way is a slippery slope because they may stop doing that thing that makes you love them. Love just for the sake of loving.
Love isn’t something bought or sold.
Love doesn’t come in a box or in a pretty gift bag. Love just is. No gift receipt required.
Love doesn’t need permission to be felt.
We are all beings of love and light. When we love just to love, we bring more of that energy to the world. Then, suddenly, the world is emanating a high frequency of love.
Love doesn’t hurt.
Sorry, Nazareth, love doesn’t hurt. Love continues to build on love. What hurts is expectation and attachment. What hurts is our lack of love for ourselves. It doesn’t mean relationships don’t end and we feel the sting of loss. It doesn’t mean that we will never be betrayed. It means when we truly live in a space of love, we can still love another even if we are no longer with them.
Love is found when we realize that love always exists within us.
We are love and light. This can be hard for many to grasp, but what needs to be understood is that love is not somewhere out there. It is at the center of our being. It is at the center of everything.
When we cultivate a deep love for ourselves, we build a strong foundation of deep love within.
It is a remembrance of who we truly are.
