So far, the Mets' tryout in the bullpen has gone fabulously well. Andy Green’s squad hasn’t missed a beat since the trades of Luke Weaver, Huascar Brazoban, and Brooks Raley, gaining similar performance from Yan, Lavender, Duarte, and Senga. With the top 8-10 core players on a roster costing more every year, it’s critical for every team, regardless of payroll, to gain value around the margins. Since the departure of Pete Alonso, first base and right-handed power are club needs. That’s where Christopher Morel comes into play.
Jared Young has possibly solved the left-handed portion of a 2027 platoon with his season thus far. Slashing .267/.336/.448, with his numbers against RHP rising even higher. The second act that was born from his time in Asia seems to be coming together. Despite that, his work against southpaws has much to be desired, with a .554 OPS coming into tonight’s action. Where would the right-handed complement come from?
