Tickets are still available for TAKE’s 13th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, April 25th in Birmingham, AL! This year’s theme, “Welcome to the Jungle,” promises an unforgettable evening of celebration, performances, and community.

Hosted once again by the incredible Yves Matthieu East and Dianca Glamour, this year’s gala will be especially meaningful. We are so proud to mark the opening of our new permanent Gloria’s Safe Haven emergency shelter.

Guests will also be the first to learn about an exciting new way to support and sustain T.A.K.E.’s work as we continue building toward long-term housing solutions for our community.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of this powerful night, secure your tickets now!

Can’t make the gala but want to support our work? Celebrate 13 years by donating today!

TAKE has had a busy few weeks! Thank you to all of you who came out to our Trans Day of Visibility events in both Birmingham and Pennsylvania at the end of March. People loved Aakosha Bentley’s performance in Birmingham, and we were gratified to receive a Proclamation from the PA Governor honoring Trans Day of Visibility in the Commonwealth for the first time in its 250-year history! ALTRAC also shared some amazing information with us at the Birmingham event!

TAKE hosted our yearly Redefining Sisterhood Retreat as well, bringing together women across the cis/trans divide to foster greater solidarity and community strength. We also presented at Well.Yes’s Student Symposium in Philadelphia, sharing about our efforts to make schools safer and more equal with youth across PA. Check out some photos from these events:

Some big news regarding TAKE’s expansion of our housing programs that serve community: the Zoning Board has officially said YES to our special exception permit! We have now been cleared by both the neighborhood association and the zoning board, and we are officially moving forward with submitting our final paperwork to open the FIRST documented trans communal living space in Birmingham. We will continue doing life-changing work in a facility that has operated for the past 100 years as a safe haven for many different types of individuals and now, it will stand under the final ownership of a Black trans-led organization. This is legacy, and this is what equity in action looks like. We will keep sharing more news as we take further steps to provide for community with this program!

“Our Annual Gala is happening this upcoming weekend, and it’s more than just a celebration; it’s a moment of reflection, power, and purpose. As TAKE turns 13, we are honored to celebrate our incredible community partners, leaders, organizers, and those who have remained deeply committed to this work. Because of your continued support, we are able to show up daily and create life-changing impact in our community.
If you haven’t secured your ticket yet, now is the time click the link and join us.

This year’s theme, “Welcome to the Jungle,” speaks volumes. We are living in a time where our identities are being challenged, restricted, and politicized. There are systems actively trying to erase us. But when you think of the jungle, you think of freedom; every being moving boldly within their space, embracing one another, building solidarity, and protecting their own from harm.
That is who we are. That is what we continue to build. We look forward to celebrating with you. And always remember trans folks are human beings and deserve equity, dignity, and respect no matter what.”

Once again, thank you for tuning into The TAKE-Away: TAKE’s FREE Monthly Newsletter.
