A Cosmetic Chemist Shares Exciting New Beauty Products

So I brought in cosmetic chemist Jane Tsui to share a few of her favorites.

“This is different because a lot of the dry shampoos on the market are aerosol, but this is not aerosol,” says Tsui. “It dispenses wet instead of as a powder and then as it dries it becomes a powder in your hair […] and gets rid of all the oil.”

This one is also unique because it uses silica instead of the typical starches found in dry shampoos to remove oil. Silica makes the formula feel lightweight so it doesn’t weigh down your hair.

“This caught my eye because Desi Perkins, who owns this brand, she’s known for that body glow,” says Tsui". “Her launching this was just so on brand for her.”

This is a thick formula that leaves your skin looking glossy and is very nourishing thanks to the oils and shea butter.

This serum contains ingredients like oat kernel extract for redness relief and arnica for calming and soothing, but the main ingredient that caught Tsui’s eye is dipotassium glycyrrhizate.

“Dipotassium glycyrrhizate [is an] ingredient that’s super common in Asian skincare. It helps with barrier support, hyperpigmentation, and it’s also soothing.”

“What’s innovative about this is the packaging,” says Tsui. “It’s a continuous mist, it’s super fine, and smells like summer. What I love about this is it makes sunscreen easy and fun to apply.”

The formula dries down and doesn’t stay sticky, but leaves your skin with a glowing finish.

“This has been one of my favorite tinted [sunscreens] that I’ve ever used,” says Tsui. “It doesn’t turn orange on me and there’s a good shade range.”

This sunscreen uses mineral and chemical UV filters, doesn’t leave your skin overly shiny, and leaves a natural finish. Just note, I wouldn’t wear this as your only sunscreen product, to get the full SPF amount stated on the bottle you’d end up looking like you have a lot of foundation on your skin. Instead, apply a layer of sunscreen first and then use this on top as a foundation with some extra coverage.
