Okay, so I messed up my last post, and surprisingly, that helped me make a decision I’ve been circling this last week.
I’m taking weekends off from writing.
It’s only two days, and considering I hadn’t posted consistently for over a year, that still feels like a win. But more than that, I need space to slow down. A pause is probably good for both of us.
The painting stays the same, and I’m still filling my sketchbook every day. But the writing will stretch beyond the 100 days, and I’m okay with that.

Writing rests on weekends.
Last week was disrupted by family stuff and the ripple effects that come with it. I didn’t skip a day, but I could feel my routine slipping. The clearest sign was my diary (agenda) pages going empty again, and that’s always my red flag.
What showed up in the paintings was interesting with very bright colours — you’ll think I have been to the carnival!
Day 13: reminded me that i’ll never get bored of painting flowers (new painting on the left, painting on the right from summer 2024)
Day 14: came out tight and intense because of the sad news back home in Sydney, where I grew up. Only later did I notice how the colours mirrored the Aussie palette, yellow and green, national colours (new painting on the left, painting on the right from summer 2024)
Day 15: todays’ painting, was looser and relaxing (new painting on the left, painting on the right from summer 2024)
What I’m taking from these days is this: our creative work reflects more than we think, from what’s happening around us, and I am so grateful that I get to have this time to paint and to write. My creative outlet is essential, not just another hobby, nice thing to have.
And momentum doesn’t come from forcing consistency, but from adjusting to our needs.
