The last day of my Paris fashion week was the most merciful one. It was time to finally take it easy, pace myself, and ride a bike while feeling a cool breeze instead of a dragon’s breath on my face.
I began at the Namacheko showroom in the 11th, which - amazingly - features a part of the original ceiling of the Oscar Niemeyer Communist party building in Paris. I quite like Namacheko, and there were some cool pieces in the collection, like derbies with oversized eyelets and a women’s green leather ensemble, but the overall direction, inspired by the clothes of the designer’s newborn and other children’s clothing, left me cold. I just can’t get behind adults looking like children, even if it is done in a kind, wistful, and romantic way, which it certainly was.
I then biked to K’ANG, where we did another photo shoot with Matthew. This collection was the continuation of the last one, and again it was full of excellent tailoring in an earthy palette, which managed to be simultaneously structured and super light.
After lunch with the editor of Rizzoli Paris, I biked over to the showroom of the Japanese brand Niceness, which indeed had plenty of very nice clothes. Even though their concentration is – once again – reinterpretation of vintage menswear in lovely fabrics – it is their leathers that continue to blow me away. There was a black buffalo leather jacket with pronounced stitching and built-in epaulettes, and a deceptively simple zippered number made of cowhide. There were also some excellent leather travel bags, and I also liked a hunting jacket with a fireman's parka closure.
