We were on set recently shooting an editorial founder story, with a moodboard full of classic, elegant, incredibly put together looks.
The rack was packed with outfits, we were steaming everything before the shoot while the model was in hair and makeup, and I started watching our stylist make all these tiny decisions I probably would never have thought twice about.
A shoe swap. A different tuck. Trying one blazer, then another that looked almost exactly the same to me. Taking an accessory off. At one point, the sewing kit came out because she wanted to change the buttons on a blouse.
So, naturally, I started asking questions.
By the end of the shoot, I had basically given myself a free styling lesson.
These are the 10 things I wrote down.
I also made three visual guides for this one:
5 Secrets Behind a Put-Together Outfit
5 More Secrets Behind a Put-Together Outfit
The Stylist’s 30-Second Outfit Check
Basically, the stylist secrets I’m stealing for my own closet from now on.
