How many of you remember a staple of 80s sitcoms, the clip-show? Every season, there was one episode where instead of a normal plotline, the characters would have flashbacks and clips from previous shows would be played. The show, Family Ties (cast pic above), was a master of this tool (hence the image).
Ok, gonna admit it, lotta things going on right now… kids promotion ceremonies, end of school year festivities, sports, plays. Which explains why I’m gonna be a little ‘unmotivated’ (okay, lazy) for this post and make this a highlight of various YouTube hits I’ve done over the years, consider this post my version of the 80s sitcom clip-show.
In my career, I have worked with a variety of fitness organizations from certification groups to equipment companies and have shot a variety of exercise science content and fitness tips for various companies. Posted below are some of my favorite videos from over the years.
In 2013 I pitched ACE on doing a series of ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’ knock-off videos where I would interview individuals who created various fitness products to hear the origin story and how they brought the product from concept to life.
We did a series on both popular, and recently invented, fitness equipment so that viewers could hear from the inventors themselves the process for bringing a new fitness product to market. Little secret - they all live in San Diego; we didn’t have a budget for travel, so we used local San Diego fitness folks including Dave Weck, the inventor of the BOSU and Tom Campanero, the creator and owner of Total Gym. The TRX hit was shot during a meeting the organization had for its instructors in San Diego; even though the Randy and the company were based in San Francisco at the time.
With TRX inventor Randy Hetrick. Shot and posted in 2013, it has more than 2.5 million views. Want some chuckles and comedy? Make some popcorn and read the comments…

Founder and owner of Total Gym, Tom Campanero
In 2014 or ‘15, I talked ACE into shooting a series of how-to’s; including the Turkish Get-up, the kettlebell swing and the barbell deadlift.
How to do the deadlift; it was important to me that we used a female model to show that EVERY PERSON should and CAN lift heavy stuff.
This is a quick primer on how to perform an explosive swing. Learn it. Know it. Live it. (1st one to DM the movie that references gets a copy of each one of my ebooks).
In 2014, we collaborated with Exos and SKLZ to create a series of how-to videos for performance training. The cool thing is that these types of exercises are perfect for optimizing our fitness as we age.
These are legit speed drills being taught by Les Spellman (follow the link to see his creds). It was an honor to work with him.
Rick and I have known each since flip phones were popular; he is one of my oldest friends in the biz. In this episode, we’re discussing my book on exercise recovery.
This was shot to accompany an article I wrote on mobility training for ACE.
One of the first videos we shot on how to do the squat; say hello to 2009 (37 yo) me.
A quick hit shot a trade show to promote the HIIT bike.
One of my favorite interviews. Dr. McGill’s books helped me rebuild my core after rupturing a disc playing rugby. And yes, I returned to playing.
