I’m not sure where I wrote this poem, and I only vaguely remember the elderly gentleman who asked for it. Unfortunately, I didn’t get his response on video, but I do remember him saying that life is what you give away to others. I think that’s a good way to live life. It’s too bad some don’t learn that until they get older.

AGE IN CONTEXT
Every single decade
we feel ourselves get older
some embrace the wisdom
and get a little bolder
but at a certain age
some will start to shrivel
they have less life for living
and see things as so much drivel
but there is a little secret
for those who still want to live
life ain’t about what you get
life is about all that you give
so if you are in the double digits
or your age is numbered by three
you’ve still got 1440 minutes a day
in which you get to be
give your time and talent
and help others find their treasure
how many lives you change
is a truly wonderful measure
of the true value that you bring
to those with whom you engage
those are the numbers that matter
and they have nothing to do with age
