Hi everyone,

You may recall from last week’s reflection on coincidences the invitation to notice life’s mysterious patterns.

Well wouldn’t you know…

One of those mysterious little patterns quietly found me.

I mentioned bestselling author Martha Beck, who decided her writing self needed a braver animal than the tortoise she’d always favored. When she chose the tiger, tigers began appearing everywhere.

Then, as if on cue, this appeared in my Instagram feed: a video of a remarkably relaxed—and, yes, very cute—tiger* lounging in a tree.

But it wasn’t the tiger that stopped me.

It was this message, spoken in David Attenborough's unmistakable voice, that did.

An invitation to slow down

One of the simplest things you should do is just actually,

just stop.

Sit down.
Don’t move.
Keep quiet.

Wait.

Ten minutes.

You’ll be very surprised if something pretty interesting doesn’t happen in ten minutes. 1

Maybe that’s the real tiger medicine.

Not the animal.

The invitation to stop long enough to notice what was already there.

Coincidence?
Timing?
Or just the universe having a little fun?

Ahhh 🐯

.

*PS, turns out it’s a leopard not a tiger. (Thank you, Leonora, for pointing it out.) Will just go with a more general “cat” medicine.

What happens when you just stop?
Actually stop.
Keep quiet,
and wait for ten minutes?
