I have cut down a lot on how much bottled inks I have. Mostly by using up what I have over buying anything new. Currently I have seven bottles. One almost empty, one close to empty. Three half full. Two full or more or less full. Funny how I always go in these cycles of buying loads of ink over some months. And then it goes years before I buy any more.
At the moment I have more pens inked up than I have had in a long time. But my plan is to clean up and put away a bunch of pens as they run out ink. A big part of the reason is that most of the time I use a few pens. So why keep all of them inked up? Iāll keep a few more inked up. But not the current madness.
Itās been a while since I took a look over the pens I have inked up. By the time this post is out I have had my Plotter for over two months, and it has been more or less the only notebook I have used since I got it. It has worked out perfectly based on why I decided to get one. The biggest win for me with it is in how the hit list / day plan setup I use flows. On one side I have the plan for the day. I usually one use one page for that per day, sometimes two andā¦
For my daily plan and hit-list setup I found myself at a spot where I had a big pile of pages only used on one side; the one at the right. This is because I keep my daily plan on the left and the hit-list on the right. And on most days I have to set up new hit lists way more often than the daily plan. On a super busy day I might run through 2-3 daily plan pages. While 4 pages of daily plans isā¦
At first I didnāt really do much setup. I just kind of started to use it. Here are the setup a few week in Before the first lifter I have an index page telling what I have in each of the organizers After the lifter and before all the organizers I have a bunch of plank dot grid pages I removed about half of the empty pages I first put in. Split what I have in two. One bunch at the start and one atā¦
I think I used it for a week before I figure out that you can press the metal thingy below the rings to open them. Made it a lot easier to open and close them without fucking up my nails and nail polish. It works a lot better in general if you have less stuff in it.
This is how I initially set mine up. I put the fastener case in first, then the band lifter on the left side and the regular lifter on the right side, all the organizers on the left side and a full pack of dot grid paper after that. There is also more or less always a pen in the right side lifter.
When I first got it I just kind of unpacked everything. Put things together kind of how I had imagined it and started to use it. My first thoughts were Itās so fucking nice This works how I imagined it would I kind of wish the rings were bigger but not too much
So I decided to go with the narrow size, because it is close to what my large Travelers Notebook is, and it is the largest size that is more easily portable than the A5 version. I compared if I should get the Brown Pueblo or the Orange Shrink like a 100 times over the years. Preferred the general aesthetic of the former but the orange of the Shrink is amazing. In the end I went with the former.ā¦
I guess Iāll be writing a lot of posts related to the Plotter binder I finally ordered over the new few weeks. Weāll see how long I have things to write about. Might be a while. I first started to look at binders and play around with them together with notebooks with removable pages etc during the summer of 2023. And have tried a bunch of things other than Plotter over the months and years thatā¦
I finally ordered a Plotter. Because of various money related reasons over the years it has taken forever. But Iāll recieve a Narrow Pueblo Plotter in the mail fairly soon. Canāt wait.
I use the same pens and ink brands and notebooks month after month most of the time. So itās always funny when I read a list of recommendations or listen to it on a podcast. And I have to check out like 90% of the products. I should really get into trying more stuff soon.
This is how I use my Hitlist as of April 2026 as Iāve just moved back to full size TN refills after using the smaller PP for a while. I draw a vertical line in the middle of each page in a double paged spread, giving me four ā sectionsā or ā pagesā. Earlier in the day Iāll typically complete one or two of these an hour, but I usually move a lot slower as things move on. The right most section areā¦
After doing an experiment of just using the passport / pocket sized Travelers Notebooks for a while, Iām back to using the regular size or actually Iām using both. For some things the small ones are much better. But for my hit lists I think having roughly twice the room makes the planning much more efficient. Itās funny when youāve been testing out something for a while and then you go back toā¦
I donāt need to but it is convenient. My pens can be put into three categories. The Kaweco Sports: very useful to put in pen holders on notebooks. Pens with broader nibs. Great for drawing likes and scribbling out stuff. Pens with finer nibs. My current preference for general writing Having this many pens in rotation makes it easy to just rotating out pens that are dry and in new ones from my deskā¦
This is really dumb. So if you use regular paper clips to stick pages together, youāre probably used to them being slightly bent out of shape after using them a few times. Then I try to make them last longer or using them while theyāre not really that useful anymore. Why am I doing this? They are cheap as fuck. And there is still like 2/3 of them in the box of 100 I bought six months ago
Not sure if I have written about this before. But my current passport TN setup is fairly simple. One dot grid refill in it. I use a lot of paper clips to keep things easier to manage. For example to stick together pages that Iām done with etc. And I use both of my big Travelers brass clips a lot. Great for making the pages stay open etc. I have recently put a pen holder back on it. And there isā¦
In light of the recent ridiculous price increases my some Japanese pen makers Iād like to say my perspective as a customer on price increases. As a customer I donāt mind prices going up, I prefer if they donāt, but if they have to Iād rather see minor predictable increases every year, half year, quarter or whatever makes sense for your business. Funny thing. When I bought my first ā fancyā fountain pens, the Lamy 2000 and the Pilot Vanishing Point they were both priced at . In my head they are still , and every time I see them listed at a store and I see the current price Iām shocked my how much more expensive they are. And a few days later I forget and it repeats itself a few months later.
I donāt think Iāve written about what I currently use in a while. So I was going to get a Hobonichi Weeks this year, but by the time I had money and focus to order one I could not find one anywhere local so I just decided not to. Notebooks I still use the Remarkable Paper Pro Move (jeez I fucking hate how verbose that name is) for my daily plan and other notes in the gym or when it is easier thanā¦
I ran out of my go to dotted refills for my regular sized travelers notebook a few weeks ago and decided to just use up some of my smaller notebooks before getting more of the large refills. Probably also some of the lined Travelers Notebooks I have for some reason. The only big disadvantage of using smaller notebooks for my current use is that I run through them very fast. How I do my daily plans change a lot over a year, as I need to manage different ways my ADHD manifests in fucking up my plans. At the moment I do it on my Remarkable Paper Pro Move, and it works well. I like to do it there because then itās always visible. Iāve done it with using a dedicated notebook for it in the past. Here are few things Iād like to have for my remarkable after using it for a few months. Orientation setting per notebook: Iād like to lock it differently per notebook. Like if Iām in my week plan notebook I want it to be horizontal, but in the rest I want it to be vertical. Zoom levels. Iād love to be able to configure it. Because I want to it stick to 1.0x always unless I zoom out to somethingā¦
My fountain pen cleaning routine have been all over the map. In some periods I cleaned them before each re-fill, others 2-3, some periods almost never. The cleaning itself have varied a lot too. Everything from rinsing until clear water, then refilling and tilting back and forward and repeat, to just flushing a couple of times. These days I typically will do a proper clean when I change inks forā¦

I havenāt really bought or reviewed that much this year. Partly because money and everything being really expensive. But also havenāt really seen much I really really want. What I am interested in is kind of expensive and I take forever to make up my mind on exactly what to get. Hopefully 2026 will be better on this front.
Pilot Iroshizuku Kosumosu. At least my favorite among the ones I have used over the years. This isnāt the baby girl pink, this is the loud punk rock in your face pink that I love to have on anything any time. Not for everyone, just like me.
As Iām looking for what Plotter to get Iāve been torn between the Orange of the Shrink leather, but preferring the general aesthetic of the Liscio and Pueblo leathers. Iāll almost certainly get the Orange one, but still.
The last time I bought Index Cards I looked at the price and thought ā jeez these are expensiveā, I donāt remember the exact price but I think it was something similar to and I swear it was more like -3 the last time I looked at the price.
The Remarkable Pro Move I have has a backlight, but I almost never ā needā it. In the beginning I left it on, and felt like the battery life wasnāt the best. Then at some point I just turned it all the way down and now I almost never think about the battery life. I think Iāve charged it once this week. As a thing it starts to feel more and more like stationery product the longer I use it.
Iām just comparing it to the device and notebook I have that is the most similar. Size and format Size wise it is similar height to an iPad mini, but it has more ā bezelā, and a bit narrower than my iPad mini. A quick not that accurate measurement without taking the iPad out of its case is like a little over 13cm vs close to 11cm. Compare to the TN regular size it is a bit shorter, and the TN isā¦
I finally picked one up after thinking about it basically since it came out. It is like a narrow iPad mini size wise, and very similar to a full sized Travelers Notebook. I got the fancy pen thingy with it but didnāt get a case when I bought it, because I couldnāt pick up one locally with a case. But I ordered one that arrived 5 days later. I have an Apple Pencil (2nd generation) and a Apple Pencil Pro. The first I got a while after buying my M1 iPad Pro in 2021, and the Pencil Pro I got with the iPad Mini I nougat this summer. For my use theyāre more or less the same. I donāt do anything with them that requires the Pro. However, as someone who has too many monies worth of pens notebooks etc in my bag every day the Pro model isā¦
I move in and out of using gel ink pens a lot. In some periods I use a lot of them, especially at work. And in some periods (like now) I only use them on the go. I think it depends a lot of how comfortable I am about being myself in addition to if I just want to have something simple to leave at the desk at work.
In general Iām a big fan of narrow notebooks (and devices like the iPad Mini and potentially the Remarkable Paper Pro Move; when I get around to testing out one). What I like about them is that you get something similar to an A5 size by reducing the width a bit, and this makes it easy to carry them in small slings and small bags and packing cubes; while most of them would not fit an A5 notebook.ā¦
My plan for this years planners is very similar to last years plan that never happened. I think Iām getting a Hobonichi Weeks unless I see something really interesting during the next month or so. And then just use regular notebooks or something for daily planning.
As Iāve been working out what plotter and refills etc to get Iām leaning more and more in the direction that I should have two larger ones. Probably a smaller one at a later point too, to replace my Passport sized Travelers Notebook. One for planning and one for the stuff I use my regular sized Travelers Notebook today. The reason Iām thinking having this as two separate things is the following.ā¦
I find it very useful to have my weekly plan always visible. The typical way I work with planners is that I use the weekly plan to figure out my week and then I base my daily plan on that. And I find it incredibly useful to have my daily plans in a notebook or device that can just show that. So that I always keep that plan in mind as my day goes by.
Iāve tried hard over the years to like digital pens. For the most part Iāve failed at it. I really like using them as pointing devices, but less so for drawing and writing. I donāt expect or want to them to be like a real pencil or pen. Because well I have better of both close by at all times. But recently I have tried more to write with my Apple Pencils on my iPads; I have a 2021 iPad Pro and theā¦
Unlike Brad on a recent Pen Addict episode who have to force himself to finish notebooks, I had to learn myself that it is okay to not finish notebooks, and even just throw them in the bin if I really dislike them. I also had to learn when it is better to just keep the notebook because there will be a time soon when I feel like trying out that kind of notebook again.
Unless something unexpected happens (again for the 20th time or something), I think Iāll be ordering a Plotter over the new few weeks / months. The plan is to have one as my daily planner and various other notes I prefer to have on paper. Iāll probably also use their regular dot grid paper. Now I just have to re-evaluate what size I want and how I want to do things.
I stopped using my Hobonichi Cousin last year about this time. For various reasons, mostly because I didnāt want to bring it to the office and tried to reduce bulk. But Iām going by car now so bulk isnāt really something I care about. I just picked it up from the shelf and started to use the calendar pages and daily pages where I left off; not really caring that the dates are all wrong. Itās beenā¦
Every time I see some Instagram reel or ad for some custom Apple Pencil tip or screen cover to make it be more ā pen and paper likeā or whatever is the latest e-ink tablet fad with the same selling point I just: sigh. There are great things about digital tools and there are great things about analog ones. Let my stylus be a stylus and let my analog writing tools be analog. I donāt want my iPadā¦
I always end up in this place with pens, inks, notebooks etc. Where I have left overs, that never gets used. Either because I checked something out and didnāt feel like continuing. Or stopped using something before using it all up etc. I have like half of my notebook storage filled with stuff like that at the moment. And it is time to just use it all up before I restock things.
I have a nice wood pen tray from Studio Neat. The two pen version. Iāve used it for a long time at this point. It usually has my two current fountain pens in it. And it is stained with fountain pen ink all over. And I love it. I really like objects like that, where it looks cooler because you can see it has been used for its purpose.
Iāve had this book for a year and a half at this point. It is a big A5 5 year journal. Always fun when you move past the 1 year point and see what you wrote the year before. Still havenāt done too much with the big blank pages on the right side. That is something I have to get started on sooner rather than later.
There are a few things I look at to if a bag is good / great or just fine or even terrible. All of them have to do with flexibility. If you have used a Tom Bihn bag, you have most likely seen the o-rings they have at various places in their bags. I think they are kind of the perfect example of this. They make it possible to have a key chain at any place where one of these rings are. And you canā¦
Sometimes I look at the inks I have and wonder: when did I order ink last? Itās kind of weird how little ink I have bought over the last year and a half, and how much ink I still have left. After what I can see from my order history in my e-mail I only have bought some Kaweco cartridges plus two bottles in 2025 and 2024; the purple one Lamy did last year and a bottle of Royal Blue Mont Blanc.
