You can know something is a lie and still hear it tomorrow morning.
I think sometimes we expect truth to work like a light switch. We read the verse. We recognize what we’ve been believing. We replace it with what God says and think, Okay. I dealt with that.
Then something happens.
You see the picture. Your child calls. You hear their name. You look in the mirror. You lie awake too long. And there it is again.
You weren’t enough. You failed. Look what happened to you. God forgot you.
That doesn’t mean the truth didn’t work. And it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re back at square one.
Sometimes learning to live under the truth of God’s Word means returning to it again and again when the old voice gets loud.
This week we’ve talked about looking at who God is when we don’t recognize ourselves anymore. Then we talked about trembling at His Word…giving what God says more weight than our pain, our feelings, our circumstances, or somebody else’s words.
Today, I don’t think you need another lesson.
I think maybe you just need to pray.
Maybe you’ve already asked God to help you stop thinking this way. Maybe you’ve prayed about it before. And maybe part of you is embarrassed that you’re still struggling with something you thought you should have gotten over by now.
So we aren’t going to pray, Lord, just make me stop feeling this.
We’re going to pray seven very specific things instead…starting with the part most of us skip.
